I agree, the new bimotas are VERY ducati. Whether that's a good or bad thing i don't know, but it would be nice to see a high spec jap engined bim again. Maybe a ZX10R powered KB

Or, their most popular formula ever..........
GSXR 1000 engined Bimota. How could they go wrong?

...But they know best Wink

I joined a few bikes recently for a ride through some nice twisty roads, probably 40 k's or so. I was on my sb6 and another bloke was on a new GSXR1000. We had a pretty good strap and i got to the other end ahead of him. Pulled up and had a chat and he didn't know bimotas. I said 'goes alright for a 16 year old bike eh? he said 'yep'

Suppose there are a few things to think about here.
1, the average age of this forum is such that we can remember the glory days
2, the average age means we want to ride our bikes and not have electric gadgets do it for us.

Last summer on a 11 yr old 80bhp DB4 I managed to catch ,pass and leave a 2011 gixer thou and a KTM RC8. Not all about outright power , but wieght and handling.

I like the no electronic aid approach, but again its probably for the older riders and not the spotty kiddies that want to tell their mates how they can do warp factor 9 down the striaghts but then fail to say they have to get off and push their gixer round the corners cause they can't ride.

Sad news they may/may not be up for sale, but have you seen the price of a NOS DB7's . (Think that would push the irlie over the edge though)

Well I can't say I ride very well or particularly hard either. I saw a guy on a Gix750 ... I think it was about K6. He was faster more or less everywhere than my SB6 although I was a bit quicker in the roll on test.
I was never anywhere near the K5 thou

Which really brings it home to the Bimota problem, the chassis isn't as good (or as easy to use) as a modern bike.

If I was to have a "different" bike I'd have a Tesi / Vyrus but with a propper engine ... just think a K5 funny front end. I'd also want ABS on it !!!

Don't get me wrong I don't class myself as a brilliant rider, but do think the Bim chassis were ahead of their time. Maybe it is just the ability to handle the power they have . Or maybe the fact we had to learn to ride years ago as if you twisted the trottle to much YOU WOULD end up in the hedge. These days they just let the electrics sort it out.
Girlies Bro passed his test a few years back, went striaght out and bought a gixer thou, never rode it in anything but rain mode as it scared the living daylights out of him. Binned in within about 4 months, never been back to biking since. ARSE.

Would like the Vyrus Moto2 kit, is it the vyrus 986 or something like that. Funny front end and cbr600 motor, and only about 150kg, has to be good.

Think I would call it a day at that.

Hello all,

as Bimota built up a reputation for avant guard design, maybe they should go in for endurance racing to develop road bikes. The rules allow a lot of technical innovation (or did at one time) and the costs could be lower than Superbike or MotoGP. The early bikes seemed to show quite a lot of endurance racing technology and it would prevent going head to head with the Ducatis. They could try off the wall stuff and see if it works -who knows, it might improve the reliability over the long run. With the Germans taking over Ducati, there should be money available for development and a stricter emphasis on quality without, hopefully, losing the edge of inspiration. Still, with Bimota, adversity has often lead to something special.

Cheers, MikeJ

Yep a jap engine in a custy chassis, with some bespoke parts and maybe abs, say a crossplane R1 lump, a prilla or even a honda v5? Now that would be special!
The db9 mcn tested looks great/ and still no aids for ham fisters!
I bought the sb8r because i wanted one when they arrived here, love the sound, the look, the build and the rarity!
But hey, if everyone had an aston or a ferrari the appeal of ownership would wane, its a very fine line for exclusitivity/cost/production, which is why bimota can produce stunning machines one time , then nothing for years!

Oh and living here in scotland, ill be lucky to see another bimota out this year, unless i meet with them at the green wellie to chew the fat!
Where as you will prob see an mv 1nce a mnth, a ducati everytime and a prilla sometimes, such as it goes with marks classed as exotica! Wink

I also like the IB1 we were working on, you never know you may see it one day or as a ............. or a............ r even a ................

Don't ask Pompey, I could tell you then I would have to shoot you........Smile

So maybe another forum could pop up in the future, but if it does, play nicely Smile LOL It takes sooooooo much work and effort to build a business these days and the wrong word can ruin it all of course. No one is perfect in this world especially anything to do with humans, engines and anything that is mechanical Smile
