In the process of getting my Santamonica registered so just put it on my FJ policy. Rang for a quote on monday and told them it will get a 58 plate, extra £300 to add including admin fee, thought a bit steep so ring around. Anyway value was a issue on its own policy so back to FJ. Went through the details, thought I best clarify the age of the bike , so told them it was manufactured in 2004, but first registered in Italy in december 08. OH said the girl, just wait a moment, GREAT , I thought, they going to say they can't insure it now, That will now only be an extra £179 as it is manufactured in 2004 ??????? Hey, how does that work.

So- effectively, my sb8r was manufactured in 98, but 2004 was its first registration- does the insurance run on manufactured year or registrated?( first time ive insured a late registrered bike).

Akito, as they did not make the SB8R in 2004, only 98/99 and the frame number will prove the year it was manufactured, I would say it will be worth asking the question at FJ as they insured mine on build date and your's will classify as a classic.

bimota's are classic once 10 years old, most others are 15years to qualify.
I have
1994 Superlight (classic)
1995 NC30 (classic)
Yb11 (model year 1998 but registered 2003, so who knows!)
RSVR 2003 (modern)

So long as the number of classics outweigh the moderns then you can have the lot on a classic policy

That is true, but appears its not quite that simple. I did not change the value of the Santamonica, or the registration date, all I did was tell them it was made in 2004 and registered in 2008 and that reduced their quote by 33%.
Worth while I think
