Well cleaned the carbs and put it back together now no sparks at the plugs. All fuses intact, coils all test ok and everything else works just fine on the bike. Initially I suspected a poor connection so checked all and everything seems powered so it looks like it could be the CDI unit or the trigger unit. Sad Sad any sensible suggestions appreciated!!
Anyone in the UK who has a BB1 that would connect my CDI black box into the electrics to see if it works on their bike please pm me. Will take about 20 seconds once the seat unit is off. Or does anyone have a spare I could borrow.
cheers

Hi Oily only took the plugs out when it wouldn't fire up after cleaning the carbs - they fill up fine so fuel not a problem. Gotta be electrics

Maybe the kill switch shorted out or something simple like that?

Hi Oily
All the other electrics work fine, lights, interlocks switches, which makes me suspect its something simple (me I think!). The coils test ok as per the book. I have power to the CDI unit and the wire from the CDI to the coils tests fine. I cant test if its sending the pulse to the coils as my multimeter cant do it.
I have one spare power wire but that went to the rev limiter which I removed as per other posts just in case it was shorting out.
Interestingly the ND CDI unti is numbered 071000 - 0590 whereas the ones I have been looking at on the web are numbered 071000-0820 for the BMW version.
Really its a bit of help from someone who has one so I can compare, but like their engines BB1 owners seem to operate singly! Sad

All sorted and running- as suspected the CDI unit had failed. Thanks to Motorworks BMW spares in Huddersfield for their help in sourcing the correct one Very Happy Very Happy
