BT, for a new customer, for a broadband, phone and vision plus package they want a £200 deposit, because my credit check came back and requested it. WTF!
I don't have a credit card that I use, never missed a mortgage payment, don't have any loans, other than mortgage on the house that we live in and they want a £200 deposit, for 6 months as security, why!
On top of that, I signed up for payment of the monthly line rental in one go, so it's £130 in advance, basically about £3 a month cheaper that way.
They can't tell me why their 'system' requests a £200 deposit, in addition to up front line rental payment
Any thoughts folks?

Ummm, had a similar experience 3 or 4 weeks ago......
Went to sign up for a FREE new phone deal, credit check came back and they wanted £150 for the first 6 months of a 12 month contract. Needless to say, I declined.
I owe nobody anything, I've even paid off the mortgage, WTF, is it the new way of borrowing your money for a few months? Shocked

you need to have credit to get credit. sad thing is our way of saving and spending is long gone. You need to use a credit card and pay it off every month and build a credit score... pants I know.

yep, same here......owe little to nothing to nobody...............

stupidest thing was nearly getting thrown out of a restaurant for having an argument with a snoty bar-tender who wanted to take a "swipe" of my (non existant) credit card so he could sort the tab he'd already offered me (obviously before he knew i wanted to pay cash)

didn't take too kindly to being told to stick the order where the sun dont shine because he was basically calling me a thief, at which point the manager got a little involved and it got sorted in my favour funnily enough.....

I've got a credit card somewhere, not been used in a few years.
It's ridiculious. If I hadn't been trying to solve the italian charging system on the 851 tonight i would have done one of those online credit check, see what it says. A bit like HPI'g yourself!
851 charging system still not looking the best, gave up keep starting it, i think the neighbours will be getting pissed with me, it was 11.30. .. . Smile

Yep, as an ISP/phone provider they are a untrusting bunch ( I work with them)

Think you will find most service providers ( ISP,GAS,ELECTRIC,etc) are the same, new customers must leave a deposit.

On a trip I took to New Zealand , I was surprised to be told thet very few people use cash, nearly all transactions are done on credit card, even something like buying a newspaper.

I also found it strange being in a bar in the USA , where as a total stranger I could sit and drink without paying till the end, or even leaving my credit card behind the bar till I wanted to leave as a deposit

Heading out to the bike meet tonight, probably leaving around 6. Hopefully on the 851, need to check reg/rec again when I get home. Bring your lid and use the 999 if you wish, it happens to be the only thing that road legal that runs. KR1 seems to have developed a cold!
Will buzz you later,
Phil
