Your frame is fine!
The others never made it outside the factory, but as they were numbered before being discarded, the numbers on the bikes go much further than 1144

Suddenly occured to me, I know my SB6 must be one of the last but how close is it to being THE last. Anyone know of a frame number higher than 1230?

Wow, thanks Aris, no wonder there is confusion over how many sb6's were made if the numbers go up to, at least 1265

Maybe some clues here.I checked out registry on Swiss site,and most models seem to have anomalies in quantities made to frame numbers.

If,as stated some frames did not meet quality inspection (does not mean duff,oily,maybe not shiny enough for QA inspector ) then possibly
the amount of frames made and for some reason plate numbered may account for higher frame numbers than actual complete bikes produced.

Another odd thing,is my registration document states that my SB6 was registered new April 2000,as they stopped making SB6`s around 1996
my one must have sat somewhere for around 4 years

If it had been registerd or used in another country ,I would have expected
the mileage to have been a lot higher than 12000 miles(19200 k)

Firstly, can I state, just for the record, I am not remotly concerned about the authenticity of my SB6. To me, having a high numberd frame just means it's newer than most.


Marty, I don't think it's that rare to have a late registerd Bimota. A lot were bought by collectors or were the show piece in shop windows etc. and sat for years before they were registerd. Dare say there are a handfull still not registerd.
My first SB6 had an early frame number but wasen't registerd till 96/97. My current SB6 was registerd in 98.

Marty, Just re-read your post, Is your speedo in Km as opposed to MPH?
If so, it wasen't actually built for the UK market (which means nothing as half the Bim's in the UK have Km speedo's) but, certainly the later SB6's, had MPH speedo's. If yours has a Km speedo, tis possible it was imported and registerd as NEW in 2000
I am, of course, presuming yours is a high frame number

Yep.my speedo is a KPH job,my frame is 971,so it looks like
it sat somewhere,Europe or UK, for 4 years.

I am told that if you do not register (in the UK) a bike and keep it
for some years,then try and register,you would be given a registration
on year of manufacture,not the year you try to register in.

Other than personal number plates it prevents people attempting to
make a vehicle appear newer

It used to be the other way round when I restored old bikes, If you wanted an age related plate, i.e a reg number from the year of manufacture, it was up to you to prove the year of manufacture otherwise, if dvla thought the bike to be new, you got a current reg or if the age couldn't be proved, you got the infamous Q reg. Don't forget we are talking about DVLA here and we all know they couldn't find their own arse with both hands, so if a bike was brought in from Europe, say, and declared new, how would they know the difference? Things today have improved, but by how much?
It seems to me, when it comes to Bimota's, there is a very Italian styled logic applied that us mere mortals are never going to understand so best just get on and enjoy the bikes, although it can be fun trying to second guess Bimota

my SB6R is reg 2003 but its a 1997 model. Under the rear seat unit there is a sticker that is black and has some yellow on. In the yellow is year of construction that also states the month to. My frame number 500. I think it depends on when they left the factory and also because Bimota went bust its what the recievers sold on after they took control.
