I am looking for some guidance and help from our Aussie members....or anyone who knows about shipping Bimotas to Australia

In July we are moving to Australia after 12 years in the Middle East, and I am looking to bring my SB8RS and a few other bits with me. The bike and spare parts will be shipped from the UK.

I have done a little investigating on what is required but still have some unanswered questions:

- Was the SB8R/SB8RS registered as an official model for sale in Australia?

- Is there an official Bimota importer?

- Is there an importer that specialises in importing bikes from outside of Australia........even specialising in imports from Europe?

If there is a company that can handle everything from UK to Australia even better.

I still have a few months to get things sorted, but the sooner the better as we have loads of other stuff to get organised as well.

Any feed back from anyone anywhere will be well received............

Ian

Hi,

Are you just bringing the bike or looking at bringing other vehicles as well as there is limit of one vehicle per person.

There is one SB8 that I know of but might well be just the one over here.

There is an official importer now but has only been about for past 2 years, they are very helpful though and have some clout with factory as biggest selling Bimota dealer in the world past 2 years.

There are plenty of specialist that will help with the import process, few searches should turn up some results. However can be done quite easily personally so I'm told.

Where are you looking at moving to?

Dan.

Hi Ian, welcome to the forum mate. FX Powersport in Melbourne is the Australian Bimota dealer, Alan is the owner. http://bimotaaustralia.com.au/

Also, Raider Motorsport in Coffs Harbour NSW import a lot of motorcycles and also arrange compliance etc. They may be able to help you or put you on the right track. http://raidermotorsport.com.au/

Cheers,
Brian

Dan & Brian

Thanks for the info.......we are moving to Adelaide.

After a bit of investigation on the government websites it appears to be quite easy.................. unless the SB8 is NOT a registered Bimota model in Australia!
That's why I am trying to find any current SB8 owners in Australia........no luck yet.

I will try and contact Alan @ Bimota Australia............

If you hear or come across any other info, I would really appreciate if you can send it my way...........

Would rather leave the wife behind than the SB8RS!!!!!!

Cheers

Ian

There was an sb8r for sale on bikesales.com about 18 months ago, so there's at least one in Australia

Hi Ian,
My understanding is that you can bring in one vehicle when migrating to Australia and have it complianced without too much trouble. Weather that model has been imported here before or not makes no difference but I think you have to have owned it for at least one year in the country you are migrating from and lived there for at least the last a year. And you still have to pay 10% GST. I have a YB8 (The YB8 was never officially imported into Australia) which was brought in by a German guy and this is what he told me.
Cheers
Con
