next step is to sort out some filtration....
This whole thing is now the air box which is considerably bigger than original and still considerably smaller than the GSXR......
...The filters will be sorted with aluminium mesh and filter foam over the apertures much as the original SB6 filter. How big should the aperture(s) be?...
...I have the standard two side holes plus an oblong hole at the back for some reason. These three holes are approximately the same area as the original filter area.....
...I could go bigger on the left side of the box and/or on the rear of the box if this would be of any benefit?
So...Would a bigger filter surface area be of benefit or would it affect the box in some way?. At this stage, I can reduce or increase the filter size _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

The bigger the filters surface area, the more air it can flow, so this is another case of bigger is better. Can you maybe hack/cut/use a K&N element in there as the corrugated nature of those filters make up gives a far greater surface area the the aperture alone, so you could capitalize on what room you have.
Plus, the freer flowing K&N element will allow more air in to replace what is used in the airbox, regardless of size, so again will help this particular bike even more so.

I would say make left and right the same size so that the filters/parts are interchangeable.
Its easier, no annoyance with remove and installation. (For the some clumsy mechanics)
Just an idea _________________ vince

...Point taken Daz...so more filter area = good
as for the K & N bit, that might have to wait till stage two when we know this is going to work
Then it might get more money spent on it
Vince, excellent idea but probably not "doable" as the smallest aperture is the one I can't make bigger. _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

When it's on the Dyno, we can run it with filter then without, so if it picks up power when the filters are removed, we'd then know they are still a restriction and need further work. Years ago we used to run without filters and just grease the inside of the airbox to catch the dust/dirt, but then filter technology has moved on somewhat to what we have available now, K&N filters offer virtually no restriction compared to running without a filter, so in the interests of valve seat and piston crown condition, they make a lot of sense to install.

Is always an option, feel free to try whatever you like while it's on the Dyno, is the best measure for what works, even gives you a funky graph!!!

...Not at all Vince...
Been busy doing nothing like buying and selling the odd bike to raise some money to continue with this and other projects
Just bought and sold one of those doochatee things. Bought it on Monday as spares...Sold it on Wednesday complete. Couldn't wait to get the primitive, agricultural thing of my property
Still waiting for Marco to come up with a picture of his pipercross filters fitted.
...Normal service will be resumed shortly _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

I bought it because it cost peanuts and sold for a fortune in 24 hours.
Could probably of sold it for a lot more with hindsight and there wasalso a queue of people to buy. defiantly no accounting for taste. also reaffirmed why I find them distasteful _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)
