I have just had a look inside the engine of my SB2 and found Yoshimura pistons and camshafts. I would like to know if this tuning was done by the factory and if so how many were built in this form?

An SB2 was most likely supplied as a kit to somebody so it's probably done by an owner or the original builder.
Nice find though _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

From what I can make out the factory made quite a fair proportion of the bikes as complete machines and I was interested in finding out if they modified any engines during production. They certainly did later on with other models as we know.

When did Yoshi begin making their upgrade kits? I wouldn't have thought they were around when the sb2's came out. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Brian,
Pops Yoshimura was into the American racing scene in the mid-seventies. I think parts were available for street bikes such as Kawasaki and Honda and when Suzuki started four strokes he started working on them and had the likes of Steve Maclaughlin and Wes Cooley racing for him. So I will have to see if I can get some period magazines such as Cycle etc., to find out more.

I have SB2 and Yoshimura specifications and partslists from Dixon Racing dated 1979/80.I can scan these but attaching the file will be tricky for me ,if you are patient,it may happen.
Best wishes. _________________ It's only the hairs on a gooseberry that stop it from being a grape. |
