Tempermental Italians, and yes its Italian engine as well. Happy that she's OK again, at least the fairing is easier to get back on than most.

Adjusted my idle setting yesterday and she's running better, idling was only at 500-750 revs, turned it in one and a half turns and now ticking over when warm at 1000-1200. Access is via the front wheel gap in the front fairing, shine a torch in there and where 3 or 4 fule hoses exit between the 2 carbs in a line theres a brass phhilips head screw. No need to pull fairings, seat unit or tank. Ideal placement reaaly for a Bimota Laughing
My flatslides are easier, as theres a kunrled and cabled adjuster that is tied to the frame and can be twiddled to suit at traffic lights, roadside etc, even with gloves on, nice idea.
Happy to hear that you are "bonding" with your Bimota in a way that Bimotas demand and seemingly appreciate, let her know she has a couple of goodies coming and she'll respond better, they like to be treated and cossetted... Laughing

Yeah i'm starting to learn how to play nice with bimotas. They do seem to like being in control of us. The sb6 will be next. It's been sitting patiently beside the db4 while it's been getting ALL the attention. Fairing is stripped offthe sb6 ready for new air filter and maybe the new simco radiator hoses too. I'm still waiting for the missing 3 hoses to arrive from uk. Maybe just the airfilter and then back together for a spin. I've had these '2bims' (pardon the pun) pulled apart for 3 weeks. I'm now experiencing withdrawl symptons Twisted Evil

Thanks for your suggestions and help you guys. Much appretiated. Smile

On the 3rd run up the road it suddenly cleared and pulled like a train. No more backfiring or missing at all. Pulls good, runs good, idles good.

I think the fuel hose was 'a' problem but not 'the' problem. Still not sure has happened but is now running perfect.

I'll put all the fairing back on next week and take it for a descent ride when i can. Happy again. Smile

DeeBee, no pump at all on mine, just a tap and vacuum valve on bottom of the tank then straight to the carbs. I've bypassed the vacuum valve as it doesn't seal anyway. Thanks for the links too.

2bims, my next trick was going to be to buy the NOS carbs from italy! I still might buy them anyway, for 100 euros they're pretty cheap i recon. I'll still put new plugs in next week and give it an oil change.

Seems as if there was an obstruction somewhere in the fuel system. Fuel hoses normally aren't the reason for obstruction, more it's some blocked orifice inside the carb. You might also check the connectors on the coils and also the multi connectors for corrosion, now the fairing is still off the bike and everything is nicely accessible.

That thing screwed to the bottom of the tank IS the vacuum fuel pump: ducatimonster.org/forums/tech/172978-fuel-pump-replacement.html

Gravity feed is OK for the db4 as long as you keep the fuel level above the float bowl level.

If the bad running comes back as sudden as it disappeared then I suspect either a loose particle inside a carb or an electrical problem. I had a bad runner above 6.500 rpm. On the dyno output you could see the ignition crash. But it was cured completely by changing the wiring in the ignition circuit where ever possible with 2.5 mm2 gauge wire.

But I hope your db4 stays fine now.

That vacuum 'thingy' sure is a weird bit of kit. I assumed it was just a vacuum valve but when i pulled it apart i couldn't figure out how it worked. Makes a bit more sense to me now that you say its a vacuum 'pump. Still not sure how it works. Does the vacuum from the intake manifld pulse to make the pumping action?? I checked the coil wires and all ofthe electrical connectors, all looked ok. There was no blockage in the carbs, i had them apart 4 times and checked everything. I could blow through the fuel line and filter but maybe there was enough of a blockage / restriction to cause it to starve.

Still not sure why it ran rough / backfired and then all of a sudden came good. Thinking back now, it did a similar thing when i first brought the bike home after buying it... ran rough then came good. I was assuming that it was bad fuel or a bit or a bit sick from lack of use.

Hopefully it'll come back to life now that it's getting used and not stuck at the back of a garage. We shall see. Rolling Eyes

Hey oily... i'm not sure which hoses are missing mate. I sent them a photo of what was in the kit and they worked it out from there. I'll have to send another email as i've heard nothing back since thaey said they'd get them to me asap. I'm guessing that they had to make them as they got missed on the picking list. That last email from richard was on 29th Feb.

The hoses were sent from UK a couple weeks ago so hopefully they're not too far from my place! I'll post a picture of the missing hoses when they arrive

I tried to identify which hoses they are today but still not sure.

I know the long hose from the radiator to the water pump is missing and there's no small long hoses for the resevoir bottle. I'm not sure if they supply the long resevoir hoses in the kit anyway. Will have to wait and see what tourns up i guess. Looks like an engine out job to replace the hoses. Or at least pipes off and tilt the engine forward.

The long hose from the rad to the pump is in two sections Wink
I'm missing the short hose from the rad filler cap to the solid pipe work and not sure what else.
Unfortunately, yes, you'll have to drop the engine Crying or Very sad
The worst bit is.........you can't test for leaks untill the engines back in and if you've got a leak..............engine back out Laughing
Don't you just love the SB6 Laughing

I couldn't see any joiner in the long hose from the rad to the pump? Is there a joiner under that protective cover down near the pump?

I've just put the bike back together after fitting a new air filter and a couple other small jobs. Was going to drop the engine and start on the radiator hoses but i'll wait till i've got them all. I'll pull the clutch apart at the same time i recon even though the 'dragging' problem seems to have come good with a bit of use and new oil.

Yeah, the sb6 was definately designed around the engine, not many easy jobs on this one!

Well... back to the db4. I finally got around to buying a set of vacuum gauges last week. I synced the carbs on the db4 today and I'm amazed at the difference. It's running a lot smoother, idles fine, throttle responce is very crisp and it sounds great right through the rev range. The carbs were a fair way out of ballance.

I've never ballanced a set of carbs before today but now know that it's easy as. Will put the bodywork back on tomorrow and take for a spin to see how it goes on the road.
