To remove the fairing from my YB8, I had to hang it from a beam, remove the front wheel and pull the fairing off frontways.
Is this the way it has to be done? That's pretty inconvenient if you need to do it at the race track.
I'm thinking of making a two piece fairing which would be easier to remove.
Has anyone done this, and where did you put the split line? |

Both the DB2 and YB7 split along the bottom and then come off over the front. I usually put the bike on a rear stand then sit the front wheel on a thin pice of wood, then pull the fairing around the wheel, the narrow wood allowing for the bottom of the fairing not to be pulled apart too far and pass under the wheel. Easier to do with 2 of you! Does the YB8 split along the bottom? Anyone know a different way? _________________ KB1x2, SB3 SB4 BB1 DB2 Vdue Evo YB11 RB1 Ducati MHR Suzi GS650 |

Yes, the YB8 splits along the bottom. I wasn't sure I could spread the fairing enough to get it around the wheel, but as you said it would be a 2 man job.
Do you still have your Spondon TZ350? I've got a TZ350E, and a Simpson TZ350G chassis to build up at some stage. |

As Bimota Nige says....pull forwards over the front wheel...I also emply the "sliver" of wood principle, but also put an Old rug.piece of carpet under the bike so that it slides more easily without getting scratched onthe garage floor....can be done with one person...just not so easy...I lie in front of the bike and slot my arms into the fairing at the front down low...price them open like a clamshell and wriggle backwards.....all about form over function I'm afraid...having no visible split lines |

I have taken my YB8 fairings off probably a 100 times over the years, one man job and takes 15 mins.
When i brought it i heard all the hoopla about it being a major but now im so fast i can do it quicker than people with Japanese bikes.
Bike on rear stand, remove mirrors and mudguard and 4 other mounting fasteners and loosen mirror mounts.
The trick is knowing where to place old towels to stop scratches.

Thanks everyone. It's good to know the fairing will come around the front wheel.
My race bike won't have mirrors so that should make things a bit easier. |
