Off track Bimotawise of course...and only Vaguely Bike related...but just come back from Coniston Speed Week up in the Lakes....a bunch of speed freeks from all over that "flock" to run unrestricted on Coniston for class World Speed Records once a year for a set five days a year...
Veritable mix of specialist 2 stroke engines, unmuffled exhaust systems,,,,and that heavenly whiff of 2-stroke in the air....had it not been only 5 degrees I'd have loved to take the Vdue and join in.....
Even a faithful Bluebird replica down to the last detail, unfotunately they didnt run it this year though.....they did 2 years ago...and it sank...so about as good a replica as you can possibly get....

Heeheehee...
I had a little Hydroplane like the one in the last pic!
When I was a boy, I dreamed of racing hydroplanes.........
Here is Donald Campbell's last run.
R.I.P. Brave man!!

Yeh some of the "boats" were little more than a Canteen Food tray in size and thickness...the guy in the last shot was just prepping to get out...normally he'd be lying down with his nose six inches away from the front of the boat and six inches above the water...That must be a buzz in itself at speeds up to 70mph...Now watching Mr Campbell....his more "traditional" funeral, i.e. in the ground was 12th September 2001...so was somewhat overshadowed by the previous days goings on...and as such not really known...Last of the true Brits I suppose....sadly...

Yes, the "sensation of speed" on those little hydros is a factor of 5...Where 70 feels like 350!!! _________________ '98 Bimota SB6R #000016 "Sweet 16"

Yeh...makes biking look safe by comparison.....They run the speed week one week each year...used to be on Windermere until they put a speed limit on the Lake, so by concession for five weeks each year they run on Coniston...always in November...just google "Coniston speed weeK" and the dates come up....I'll be goinng again so will post up anyhow nearer to the event |

This Bluebird replica looks stunning! Is it also powered with jet engine? _________________ Bimota DB7, Bimota DB5 Mille, Ducati 916, Ducati M900, Benelli Tornado Tre |

Yeh its been made as an exact replica, engine is a Bristol Siddeley Orpheus jet-engine of 4500 lbs thrust...this was a couple of years ago with the other boats...

And this is when they ran the replica 2 years ago...although not too successfully....
