Hi Waggy,
Had the same idea: did order the secondhand Ducati SS900 cockpit and have seen similar 10 way connector.
And since the pins etc. are separately available ...
If everything else fails will buy old wiring loomes and keep the connector housings.
So you opt to use the old wires as far as possible?
Again is also my back-up scenario .... if I can't find similar new wiring material.
Still, interested in your progress, do/ don'ts ....
Will not be the last mail about this issue! (Pics!!!)

Hi Frank,
I will be replacing all the loom wires with new wires, still looking into it, but might use new more modern thinwall wiring, which will help in keeping the loom slim.
Still have hardware to sort out before I get to the wiring stage though. |

Things moving slowly, but have fitted new bracket and dash, fitted fairing and nothing interfering, lock to lock. Also placed fuel tank on and happy that there is room for loom underneath; so no nasty cable ties to ruin the line of the frame.

Hi Waggy,
Any idea how your paintjob will look like (pattern)?
Just curious
Your frame-red looks like the Ducati red?!
Will you use the same red for the fairing/body?

Hi Frank,
The paintjob will be to original bimota pattern.
For the red and white colour, I have used a panel from my tesi which my painter has colour matched, think the red is the same as ducati's, for I can't tell the difference by eye. |

Waggy,
Is the white of the Tesi a solid white or a kind of pearl white?

Hi Waggy I see you are getting there with the hb, mine took nearly 6 years to finish, being made redundant shortly after I started it didn't help.
What are you doing for an exhaust, i am looking for someone to make a replica of mine. do you know anyone who could do that.
I take it off every winter and re-paint it, I would like to replace it before its beyond repair. |

Hi delmn8ed,
I shall be staying with the exhaust that came with the bike, previous owner had a one off stainless system made for the bike, along with nice hanger.
Though I do prefer the look of the black original pipes that your bike has.
I suppose your choice is to buy replacements as mentioned by crankcase or get some replica's made. There are plenty of firms in the UK that will make one off systems; even motad offer this service, a search of the internet will provide more such as http://www.nrpexhausts.co.uk/
Given the price of bimota spares it might be cost effective to have a replica made, then you can choose the material, stainless steel will obviously offer better corrosion protection. If you do decide to go down the replica route I would definitely be interested in a set might even lower your cost.

Thanks for the help, I will try your suggestions. I have approached numerous exhaust makers a couple asked for photos of the pipe they all knocked me back.
I was considering having a go myself, and it may come to that.
If I do find some one that can do the job ill let you know. |

Its been a while since my last post; had to take the HB of the bench and do some work on my other pups. Anyway HB is back on the bench and have finally made a start on the wiring. Have unwrapped the old loom and found lots of bodges; thankfully a nice chap from CB1100r forum sent me a wiring diagram which greatly helped in solving the puzzle.
I have used the old loom and spliced in new switch gear etc as a test run, to ensure evrything works as intended; then will order all new wiring etc and build a new loom to my ammended harness, routed under the tank so as not to be visible on frame rails.
Will be a slow progress as man cave time is limited, due to the arrival of new pups, of the smelly nappy kind and am too sleep deprived to play with electrics, so updates will be slow

That's a lot of spaghetti! Have you considered the products from Motogadget? _________________ Spike C.

Hey Waggy,
Same here, haven't been able to work on my SB4 as well due to family circumstances since March.
But will be able to dive in my man cave again in 10 days or so!
Question: you talk about bodges, are those from the Honda factory or some done afterwards?
Also, how difficult is it to make the new (Italian) switch gear work properly?
I for myself will first restore the bike and later, as a separate project change the electrics (dashboard and switch gear).
But good to hear from you!
Ciao,
Frank |
