|
|
Out for a ride the other night, still taking it easy on the ol' girl as she's only covered 748 miles in 7 years, when all of a sudden the throttle sticks wide open and I'm unable to close it
I quickly pull in the clutch (doing about 80mph) and the engine is now bouncing off the rev limiter at 11,500rpm
Hit the kill switch and coast to a stop. Luckily a guy on an R1 stops and offers to fetch his trailer to take me home What follows next is bloody hilarious
The trailer is made of wood (see pictures) and is used for carrying rubbish to the local tip. There are no fixing points to strap a bike to, so the only way to steady the Bim is to sit on the bike IN the trailer whist being towed
The looks from the car drivers as they overtook on the dual carriageway was priceless
Respect to Ralph the R1 rider. Enjoy the pics!
Oh by the way...anyone got any ideas why the throttle won't close? Problem seems to be the 'engine' end of the throttle cable, rather than the twist grip Got it booked in with my local mechanic / mate so I'll keep you posted.

Hi
Can't think of anything obvious, unless some grit has got into the bush / bearing for the throttle spindle.
All the best

It could just be that the cable itself has corroded a bit in its housing (what do you call that metal wrapped with black plastic around those cables?).
Especially with that low mileage that could be a possibility.
Some lube oil might already fix it, try that before taking it to the shop. _________________ Currently on a TL1000R, saving for an SB8Rs.

Hi
Generally with cables avoid using oil. Plenty of cables use a nylon liner that expands with oil causing the cable to stick.
All the best

Bike stripped down, throttle cable has actually snapped.
Quick phone around and it would appear that it is not a Suzuki part, but a Bimota one and the odds of finding a replacement are slim. The guys at Forza Italia in Silverstone were very helpful and suggested a company called Venhill Cables in Dorking, Surrey, who can custom make any cable as long as you take them the original.
Will give them a call on Monday to see if they have already made a replacement in the past...if not I'll drive down with my broken one and leave it with them.
Searching the internet it would appear that I am not alone with this problem, there have been a few issues in the past
All part of the ownership experience I suppose _________________ Seven |

Bummer mate.
Can't you just send them the cable? Or are they not that far away from you? _________________ Currently on a TL1000R, saving for an SB8Rs.

Not too bad...80 miles door to door...about 1.5 hours. Don't trust the postman! _________________ Seven |

All sorted.
Venhill Cables made me a cable whilst I waited in about 10 minutes! And only £18.......I should have bought 10 and stuck them on Ebay.....would make a killing!
My local mechanic fitted it and by the way....it is a right pig of a job as you have to remove the throttle bodies and half the bike. Whilst he was poking around he also noticed a few split vacuum hoses which were replaced as well.
Also managed to get some new brembo brake and clutch levers from Ducatisparesonline.com as the gold plating had worn off the span adjusters on mine.
Bike is looking good and goes even better _________________ Seven |
