Is there any logic to the YB8 fuel tap system?
The left hand outlet is like a reserve as it is low level, yet can't be turned on/off.
The right hand outlet has an off/on/off tap and a higher inlet. There is no reserve setting.
It would be good to be able to shut off the fuel to remove the tank. I am thinking of removing the left hand outlet and having a single outlet through the tap. I could remove the extension pipe on the inlet to remove the "reserve" capability.
The single outlet flows enough fuel by itself as I have been running the fuel level low during races and hence it has only been using the left hand outlet. And boy does it use some fuel! |

I'm not familiar with the yb8 tank, but is it shaped in such a way that fuel will be trapped in the left hand side unless there's an outlet there?
You could use one of these on your main fuel line -

I bought one to fit to the track bike i'm building and it looks very good quality. Haven't fitted it yet though. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

could it be that somebody has removed an electric reserve solenoid?
That doesn't look like a Bimota hex bolt in there.
They might have had trouble and taken it off ?

This was my thought.
The reserve tube (shorter one) should have a solenoid attached to the bottom, that is energised by the red button on the dash panel. _________________ Bimotas, Yamaha FZR 2TK, Honda NC30, MV Agusta F3 800, Aprilia RS250 |

Solenoid is indeed missing and when fitted would allow you to remove the tank, once the manually activated tap is turned off, without ruining another pair of shoes If you're not bothered about a reserve, you might want to take the spigot from what should be the electric tap off and bolt a blanking plate and O-ring over the resultant hole in the tank. By the way, that's the original fuel hose and has probably gone pretty hard by now. If you replace it, try to replicate the original hose layout as closely as possible, as it's very easy to end up with fuel starvation from hoses bending in the intense heat under the tank. _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |

Good comments everyone. I use the quick couplers on my TZ350 and they're great.
The YB8 tank is relatively flat so fuel doesn't get trapped on one side.
That bolt is not a stock Bimota part so it makes sense that was where the solenoid went. That bolt is an ugly normal bolt, not your typical machined from billet Bimota beauty.
Good point about routing the fuel lines. I'll fit the blanking plate and run a single line. |
