So i've managed to lose the key to one of my bikes... not a bim fortunately, but it is my little faithful workhorse CB250.
I'm in the shit cause my lovely wife told me to get a spare cut the last time i had 'location issues' with the one and only key. Of course, the task of getting a spare key was not high on my priority list .
Not exactly sure of what to do from here. I have no idea if a locksmith could make a key to suit the lock?? The ignition switch isn't a big problem for me as i could just put in a toggle switch under the side cover somewhere. But that will only help me for about 300 k's til i run out of fooking juice as i can't open the tank cap
Yes... i'm a dipshit _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Oh Brian..........poor you........No ability to remove the filler cap central bolts and prise it off? Is there a key number on the ignition barrel somewhere? Can sort of forgive you........Suppose your nearest keysmith is almost in another country to you relative to normal residences..... |

A locksmith can make a key for you but of course they need the lock. There should be a number on the ignition lock, they can cut a key from that.
The last, more embarassing is you can call a locksmith out for a visit
Don't panic it's not such a big deal, just inconvenient _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Well that is good news. I was going to pull the ignition switch out and take it to a locksmith with my tail between my legs and see if they can help me.
I would have kept it a secret from my mrs as she so kindly advised me to get a spare cut previous to this, but I had to get her out of bed to come and pick me up _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Had to come and pick you up? So now you're saying you were out and about on it...and then lost the key...even better....no going back from the humiliation of having to phone the Mrs after that.........when you take it to the locksmith...just say your Mrs lost the key...or some make believe mate......you've faced enough humiliation for one lost key already |

That's a good idea Steve but jeez if she found out i'd really be in the dog house . I suppose I could get away with blaming her though, after all it is technically her bike, she just hasn't ridden it in years. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Oooohhh...dont try to get off on a "technicality" ...that would be the first thing brought as evidence in the Divorce Courts.....along with Facebook pages of "bikes in the Kitchen"........If you can cough up to your Mrs...then may as well cough to the keysmith also....You're all related to each other anyhow up there arent ya? So she'd find out anyhow.... |

Darn it....forgot that was going to implode as a reverse insult......Had a kiwi mate once ranting on about his nationality and being better than British....had to shoot him down in that his argument was voiced using the English language only....the only language he knew.....suitably subdued..........And he was a Jaffa....... |

Well $39.50 and the little rocket is a goer again The locksmith was able to make the key from a code on the bottom of the key barrel.
And just to keep in theme with the forum... keys made in Italy

...and you've now got a spare. See there was a reason for all this
Have you checked in the lining of your helmet.
I knew someone who always put his keys and gloves in his helmet, lost his key, turned up days later in the lining of his lid. _________________ Bimotas, Yamaha FZR 2TK, Honda NC30, MV Agusta F3 800, Aprilia RS250 |

I did that once - I was carrying a lot of bits to the garage and put the keys in my helmet. Got there no keys, looked and couldn't find them, retraced my steps to the flat yada yada. It wasn't until I put my helmet on and it fet odd that I found them _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Didn't look in the helmet lining, but i did check in the gloves. I think the key must have come out of my backpack when i took some other gear out in the dark. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Brian, the engine of the CB, did you've found it at the bottom of the ocean?
It looks a bit corroded _________________ vince

It's a work horse not a show pony .
