|
|
Hi There
I have had my Bimota SB6 on a DynoJet test bench. I my bike 114 HP on the rear wheel.
If I look in the manual, the motor schould have 156 HP in the motor.
I though the 114 HP on the rear wheel, was to little.
Is there anyone that had tried there SB6 (Standard trim) on a test bench ?

Unfortunately that is about the correct rear wheel horsepower. The 156bhp is quoted at the crank and is hugely optimistic anyway.
One of the main problems is the small air box which doesn't allow the motor to breathe properly. I removed the airbox and had a Dynojet Stage 3 fitted to mine with an original SB6 race exhaust (loud!) which lifted it to around 130bhp from memory.
With the airbox gone, you could also fit a battery box in its place and upgrade to 12v conversion, instead of those stupid 2 x 6v's hidden at the front of the fairing!
Finally, remember all dynos give slightly different readings, but either way the SB6 is a very fast bike and handles superbly well. Enjoy! _________________ Seven |

Thank for the input. I will try to move the airbox, and find a dyno Stage 3 for my bimota |

Hi Seven,
Doesn't the airbox support the rear of the fuel tank? Surely you would run into problems when removed?
Cheers

My SB6 runs at 128 at the back wheel with race cans and original airbox still in tact... but great idea for the battery to help lower weight and centre of gravity... _________________ Pomps

A friend of mine who's pretty handy with sheet metal (ex Williams F1 engineer) manufactured a steel battery box which slotted into the space left by the airbox. Job done! _________________ Seven |

What kind of race cans do you have on your SB6?
If you have a picture that would be nice

The race cans obivously sound different but don't ad any power. You can have your originals "cored" to give a similar result but remember if you want to take it on a trackday you may need a quieter pipe. I had my race cans Camcoated to race specification (inside and out), it cuts down on heat and is a useful mod if you plan to ride any distance cos your asre dosen't get burnt.

I am working in the states at the moment so I'll post pics when I get back end of May... I have always assumed that the race cans came as stock with the original purchase rather like the Ducati sp varients? _________________ Pomps

Had my first SB6 on a dyno, it made high 120's with a slipping clutch
the stock GSXR made more than that.
My 6R is putting out a shade under 140 rwhp
so I'm guessing it's not your pipes that are causing the problem as all of mine had/have standard pipes |

Are you sure you'll be back at the end of May.......
With the UK airports being closed more than open at the moment due to volcanic ash, you may be having a long "channel night" in the Azores |

Yes it's down to the smaller airbox on the 6, and the standard K+N 2in one pod filters don't fit the tail unit. I had a set of Acropavic down pipes for a GSX-R and the only disernable difference is the pipe diameter where two downpipes join into (the 2 in the 4-2-1) which was larger.

I think I've read about a mod for the SB6 airbox which releases a few more gee gee's.
I'll have a look to see if I can find it |

You mean like drilling holes in the side near the shock and removing the wire gauze from the other. Then cutting down a K+N flat filter to fit in place of the original & making sure the air pipe from the fairing feeds the airbox ????
Nope not heard that one |

Nope, somthing a bit more shophisticated than the usual bodge
While we'er on the subject of air filters, anyone know which is the best K & N for the SB6 airbox? |
