Gentlemen...
This is a copy of a post I placed on the EAB forum...all ducati engined based CAGIVA'S.
There is some relevance in as much as you guys have Ducati engines fitted and also FCR carbs to other engines.
"Some of you may have read between the lines, 6 enquiries containing 4
offers, meant that 6 did, my Cagiva Azzalin Rallye bike is leaving for pastures new.
Long story but "its not you ...its me" type scenario and some bad memories meant that the "lurve had gone".
So ...get it serviced/shims checked/belts done and generally have it
presenting a new clean face to the new owner...another EAB member.
Whilst I am at it I might fit some RAMAIR filters to the FCR rather than my
industrial, but, all encompassing ITG Rallye filter....the RAMAIR looks better,
albeit, it just fits over the bell mouth and not the complete air box space.
Start the bike...a bit of a cough....usual FCR morning cough...then a wee
puff of smoke from the back fire..nothing serious ..a bit like a cloud of
talc powder when you grab the bottle too hard.
Another pump of the 39millers and push the button ....only now I can see a soft brightish glow emanating from under the tank.
Gentle Jesus and effing Batman...the bike's on FIRE!
I rush out of the garage past the other 4 elefants and the PD No91 Prototype to get some water.......I get back and using the watering can...the only thing available..... and watch a lazy shower pattern of water, hit the tank.....after 30 seconds and almost a gallon of water .....it is out...no more fire
I start to push the Azzalin out of the garage, where we have to pass the
Prototype and just as we get next to it ....the fire re kindles and off we
set light again...."emergency services how can I help you?" and a vision of
a red haired Italsport dealership owner...... all flash before my eyes.
Once outside......I unravel the garden hose and set about doing my best
fireman's impression.
All OK ...the bike was mildly damaged... more smoke and molten filter
mess...great globs of filter and a scene reminiscent of a fire brigade
"careful this Christmas" with a burnt out teddy and some dodgy Chinese tree lights...only these weren't Chinese.... they were RAMAIR...DO NOT FIT THESE unless you want to claim on your insurance......I care not a jot if I am sued...DO NOT FIT THESE RAMAIR filters.
The tank was slightly marked underneath...the frame was black in section and the carbs looked like they had been wrapped in foam prior to
shipping......Alex at Proteam Ducati (Kent) came over Monday morning, stripped, checked and re fitted the (soaking in cleaning agent)FCR 39millers.....fired everything up and re fit everything, which was grabbed at in my rendition of how to dismantle a bike in 90 seconds impersonation.
All is fine...calm has returned...the soot was wiped away with degreaser
agent and my tears with kleenex.....Its time for the Azzalin to go...and I guess this bike just doesn't want to leave.
DO NOT BUY RAMAIR...DO NOT BUY RAMAIR.......I can say no more.
Smokin'

Hello.......I just got a PM from Ram Air who requested further info on the malfunctioning filter. It appears that there are a lot of "cheap imitations" out there and that their product is double skinned....and uses fire resistant or retardant foam. The filters I had were NOT double skinned or resistant ,but did have RAM AIR "printed/painted" all over it...so there may be some mileage in their comments.......I have agreed to send them some photographs of the burnt and unused units, as purchased from a Welsh superstore.
At least they are trying to resolve the issue......more to follow.
regards

Welsh Superstore? Could there be a "demon" at play??
I try not to use them......not coz they're bad or anything.....but they discount on ebay..yet charge more on their own site or if you actually turn up in person....they say its to be competitive on ebay...which I understand..but after paypal and ebay fees and posting they still sell cheaper than to a man walking through the door....doesnt make sense..........But good to hear that filter company or on to it if theres been a problem...should always be the first call to go back to them |

Quite often have the same PUFF of smoke out of the FCR's on my DB4, part of the charm of flat sides eh ! thank god for K&N though, I will remember never to swap for anything else !!
Is that a north Wales superstore or a south Wales superstore ? |

I promise ...this is no April fool gag.
Check the recent membership list and view RAMAIR...they joined just to respond to the posting. Indeed...they sent a PM to me to discuss the problem with their "product director"
.....I would not pull a stunt like this.
Once I figure out my new phone and how to post a photo....promise. _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!
