Hi,

Who has a SB4 (or SB5, HB2/3 or KB3) with a rear shock with a separate hose connected compression tank/container?
I wanted to know if you have experienced mounting problems with either hose or tank/container?

I want to order such a rear shock but the supplier says it's better to use a more conventional shock without a tank/reservoir ......

The only reason I want it is since I want to be able to adjust the compression damping if necessary.
I assumed mounting a rear shock with the extra hose and tank/reservoir would be a simple job....
Could it be I oversee something???

Hi Frank

I have one with remote reservoir fitted no problem.
Mine is the original shock which I recently had fully restored along with the front forks.
Interestingly when the front forks were apart the right one had no damping control connected internally. 34k miles nobody had noticed.
It makes you wonder how often people service the shocks.

The only thing I would be careful of is how you clamp reservoir to frame. If you machine some clamps to hold reservoir, ensure they do not protrude any further than the face of seat mounting lug, or the clamps will interfere with bodywork.

How long should the hose be (middle of the banjo bolt till container)?

Hi Frank,
My shock is a Maxton unit, its hard to measure hose length when fitted, but with a bit of string i measure very roughly over 40cm. Of course each shock will be different, my banjo outlet is top of shock close to shock top mounting bolt, it then routes under battery box and under rectifier as photo above. You could use a piece of string, or hose and route it were you want reservoir to be, to shock mounting bolt, to give you rough idea of length and depending on design of shock you can add a bit, best to be a bit long than short

Could you be so kind to send me some pictures of the original?
Just curious how the original (with container) looks?
Mine is fully black but have no idea if it is an original and I couldn't find a brandname.
I'm going to order a 641 Wilbers shock (costs about €650 which is roughly £500 is not to expensive I think).

Is it maybe possible for you to make a photo of the rear shock with the battery compartment mounted?
Really forgot where the shock has some room once mounted.
I have the pic of youre rebuild but there the shock upper is with lots of space since the battery is not in......

Was wondering how the original looked like.
Didn't know that it had one with a container since the spart list shows only the "simple" one.😳
Having said so I have also one with container but have no idea of original or not (no brand mentioned), seems they are all different.
Nevertheless I ordered a bespoke one from Wilbers (641).

My original item is Marzocchi. when I had it fully rebuilt (only the spring is different from stock), the quality of components was mentioned as was its accuracy in adjustment.
By the looks of things on this bike Bimota used the very best of suspenders available.
