With these wheels, the calipers end up nearly in-line with the mounting tab. I made a plate which sits on the outside of both mounts with a 3mm offset and all is good. I'll post a photo up later.
The discs are 320mm just like the standard Brembos. I was thinking about changing to a cast iron disc in future but was told by the local Ducati guru that current stainless technology has surpassed cast iron, so I will see what they're like and probably stick to the stainless.
I'll measure up my axle when I get to work Trev. Thanks for the offer. |

My bike had PVM wheels fitted so I can't compare these wheels to the OEM Oscams but they were heaps lighter than the PVMs.
The new rear is 7kg with the sprocket and disc but no tyre. Does anyone know how much a rear Oscam weighs? |

Yeehaa! The Bimota is ready:
It's been a hell of a lot of work to get it finished over the last few weeks. But now it's finished, it runs and it's loaded in the trailer for the trip down to Phillip Island tomorrow. 1000km of tedious driving but excitement once you get there.
I've been too busy to post up the progress. I'll do that when I get back. |

I've been thinking about you Bud and knew that you'd be working your ass off getting ready for this weekend. All the best mate. Wish I could have managed to get down there this year. Maybe next year

Well I'm back from the Island Classic. It was a top weekend. Typical everchanging weather conditions from 32°C to 12°C and changing wind directions.
The YB8 ran like clockwork. The new fuel pump relay lasted about 2 laps so I had the ride of shame on the recovery trailer. A quick replacement and all was good again.
In the 3rd practice session, the bike stopped again. Ooops, my fault, no fuel. To cover my mistake, I told my brother there was a problem with the fuel pump - it was pumping air He was reaching for the tools before he realised I was making a joke.
However, I had back to back races with my TZ250A which made it very hard to get in the groove on the Bimota. As I was leading the 250 Period 6 class by Saturday, I decided to park the Bimota and concentrate on the TZ. I ended up winning the class on the TZ so it was a good decision.
The new Bridgestone 200 VO2 slick on a 6" rim was a bit wide for the hugger. When I stopped, my pit crew brother couldn't fit the tyre warmers because the wheel wouldn't turn. It ended up the tyre was melting on the hugger and glued itself once I stopped. Hugger removed and problem solved.
After the last blow-up, I was reluctant to rev the crap out of it after the full rebuild. Even with tall 17/42 gearing it was revving more than I wanted down the main straight. I'll gear it taller next time.
So all in all, it was a good shake down run. Pity about the back to back races. The next meeting will probably be the Barry Sheene at SMSP in March. |

Sounds like you had a top weekend Bud. Glad the yb went well and congrats on the win with the TZ. I can imagine it would be hard to get off the TZ and onto the bim and vice versa. All in all a successful weekend _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Did you notice much of a difference with the lighter wheels Bud?
At least the new engine should be run in now _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

It's hard to tell when you jump off a TZ250 straight onto the Bim. Anything is going to feel heavy. It felt sweet, just not as agile as the TZ of course.
I've got the feeling that the lighter wheels were balanced out by the heavier crank. I lost 5 kg with the lighter wheels which is a big rotating mass. But then I had to replace the lightened crank with a stock crank which weighed 5kg more, spins at a higher speed than the wheels albeit with a smaller mass radius.
The new brakes were awesome though. The Brembo pads chosen to suit the stainless discs were great. |
