I swapped out my old guage cluster with a brand new one,and my bike did not like it at all. Bike seem to run on 40% power. pull out the choke and it does nothing. Then I put back the old unit, and bang it came back to full life. very weird, I guess that's Italian for you.. |

Little update. I swapped out just the RPM cluster, and the bike acted the same. At first I thought it had to do with the two main pin connectors, harness plugs, but it is the new RPM guage itself that is causing the bike to not run right. Put the old one back, and the bike is back to normal. The RPM guage being electronic, I guess the problem lies somewhere there.. |

2bims experienced this same problem when installing a new tach to his db4. The new tach appears to cut out the rear cylinder. The tach gets its signal from the green wire on the rear coil/ ignition module. I'm guessing that the newer tach's must be slightly different. It's May just be That they've wired it with the 3 wires in different places in the connector. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

AS Brian has stated....and I did try to warn you that maybe the rear cylinder would cut out....I'm guessing that the wiring or the unit is different even if it looks the same....the spare clocks you bought may have been from a 748/916/996/998 Ducati...as they all used same "style" clocks...but evidently running different injection systems and different sized engines....Did the speedo at least now run properly?.... |

Hi guys thanks. Yeah it looks like we have to buy the guage specifically for the Db4. That's the only way it's going to work. |

The "old" tacho should have a serial/part No. writtten on the back of it...I can only imagine that the display was from the Ducati 900SSie...that was at least running the same engine capacity at the time the DB4 was produced...with this number you may at least be able to source the same tacho at first from ebay....and then if not from there....any Ducati dealer should be able to get the part.
I think that Bimota were using the 900cc engine from the Ducati monster at the time...as this was carb fed...whereas the equivalent sports model was fule injected...but the instrument cluster used by Ducati was a different make/model on the monster.... |

So my friend in Japan was able to help me get a DB4 guage cluster over there. I hooked it up, started the bike with the choke open, and it ran perfect. I took it for a good test ride, Perfect again. Glad everything is fixed now. Some pics..
The Ducati RPM guage.

Nice. I've just ordered a late model 900 Supersport tachometer. I hope it works _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Plays up sometimes Steve. Doesn't like to go past 6k on occasions. Just like sort of gets stuck.
I picked up a tach and temp gauge complete from a 2000 900ss, looks identical. My temp gauge clear cover has crazy cracks in it also. I just hope it works was there seems to be a lot that aren't compatible _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Don't know if you've got this sorted but there is a brand new cluster for sale on Yahoo Japan - http://one-jp.com/lot/s431112317

Well my attempt is a FAIL. The tach that I bought bounces and doesn't appear to read the correct revs, looks to be low. Although the engine still fires fine with it connected.
That aside... It's a piece of shit! One the tach gauge mount points is broken and the whole plastic housing is bent. Looks like it's been in a serious crash. I bought it from USA and will see what the seller has to say _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |
