it'll be naked Steve - the clothing covers all the detail. And the Devil is in the detail Very Happy
next year it'll have all it's painted bodywork fitted (maybe............)

a lot more to look at this year Steve - its got a full engine, electrics, 2 - yes 2 - handlebars, new front discs, calipers - oh hang on - where's the bloody re-furbed calipers gone...............? Crying or Very sad
And I've even fitted the original, anodised eccentric adjusters Very Happy

I don't think I've done too badly Trev, considering it was in store for 6 months due to a house move, then another 3 months awaiting a "working" garage at the new house. Plus a couple of months of falling-out with it and the subsequent Ebay advert............ Very Happy

I think you have done a great job and I am happy that you have stuck with it ,
it is worth it there is no bike like it , maybe for a reason ?
Matt will be happy to see it back on track , maybe Hayden can ride it instead of the Drive Honda it could be quicker ?

why - oh why - is nothing ever straightforward on this bike.................?

for the past few weeks, I have been trying to fit the newly acquired bodywork to the bike. First of all, I grabbed a handful of Dzus fasteners, only to find that they dont fit. Everybody, especially racers - uses Dzus fasteners - right? Not Bimota, not on their race bikes, they use these........





having never come across this type of captive fastener before, I posted on this forum to try and identify the correct type of male fastener - several people pointed me in the direction of aircraft parts retailers, as they are used for securing aircraft panels. I discovered that they look a lot like this......





a chance conversation about these fasteners with one of my welders, who remembered them from his Formula Ford racing days, led me to the Demon Tweeks on-line catalogue, where thay appear in a multitude of "grip lengths".
So I ordered 1 of each of the first 3 sizes and awaited the postman............



dashed out into the garage, only to find that they were all lacking in "grip length". Another problem also reared it's head - the head sizes were too small, and they all but fell through the mounting holes in the outer faiting panels.....



After giving it some thought, I ordered one of each of the next 3 sizes of male fasteners from the DT catalogue, and having measured the diameter of the outer panels mounting holes (anywhere between 9 - 10mm), a packet of 10mm Rivnuts too. My idea was to use the Rivnuts as a sleeve for the male fasteners and to provide the necessary width to fill the mounting holes. However, my thinking was drastically flawed........



the Rivnuts wouldn't fit in the outer panels holes - bit obvious why really - as the 10mm Rivnuts were larger than 10mm in overall diameter..............doh !

So I ordered a packet of 8mm Rivnuts, and waited for postie..................

several days later, the parcel containing the next 3 sizes arrived........



closely followed by a pack of 8mm Rivnuts, which fitted the fairing outer panels perfectly......



which is where the next set of problems arose - firstly, the Rivnuts were too long and secondly, the male fittings wouldn't fit through the Rivnuts due to the crosspin being too wide...........



so, into the vice and a bit of hacksawing later..........



then off to the pillar drill............



and voila..............



another bonus - 2 of the second set of 3 male fittings actually fit......





so, I have placed another order with Demon Tweeks for 15 male fittings of the correct "grip length", meanwhile I have 13 more 8mm Rivnuts to modify............. Very Happy

Yeh...........I didnt think they were the right size/length etc...so I'm very glad you've done the much needed groundwork in finding which ones are correct....teehee........I knew there was a reason why I've never replaced the 3 I have on the under belly of the DB2..... Laughing

Those original fasteners are also found on the SB2. When the fairing was painted some didn't have enough reach to twist into place.
