Hi I've been working on a YB7 that needed indicators reinstating after being a track bike at some point. All wires were there so just needed a relay, switch lever and signal lamps.
When I rode the bike it blew a fuse and lost headlights, rev counter and indicators.
All the wiring diagrams I've seen for an FZR have a seperate fuse for signals but mine seem to be running on the headlight circuit (red/yellow wire from fuse box) and I can't see a main fuse seperate from the fuse box.
Also the starter button will turn the engine over without the key being in.
Does anyone have any idea whats going on? Has my loom been messed with?

Thanks Tom

Hi Tom, can you describe which fuse has blown. I'll look at my fuses to see what's in mine.

My YB4 will run the starter without the key, but won't fire. I'm fairly sure my YB7 doesn't.

Would this be the yellow YB7?

Hi Laminator yeah it was the second fuse from the front, red wire on one side and red/yellow wire to the loom. It had been replaced with a 10amp which explains why it blew so easily because headlight fuse alone on an fzr is 20amp. I don't want to just trow a 20amp straight in without making sure everything is right first.
If you could check yours that'd be great, if possible could you pull that fuse and see if your signals are on the same feed.
Yeah its the yellow one

Thanks Tom

Yep, will pull the fuse tomorrow and see what happens, cheers

Edit - did you get the indicators with the bike or purchase some?

Hi, just had a look at my fuses, but not had time to pull one out and check what happens. I can confirm that, from front of bike they are 20A, 20A, 20A, and finally 10A.

thought I'd have a look in the manual , hahahaha, just in case. As expected no details so go with Lammis info.If you look on the web you can find images of the FZR400 wiring harness😄 which you should be able to use

Thanks!
Mine were 10, 10, 10, 25 it's never a good sign when a new car or bike comes with a bag of fuses.
Do these bikes run a standard fzr400 loom? All the fzr wiring diagrams show 3x 10amp (signal, ignition, fan) and 1x 20amp for the headlights.
A 20amp will be ok for headlights and signals as long as I don't have lo-beam on, flash lights, brake and signal all at the same time.
If you could check your signals on that fuse when you get some time please.
I bought the indicators, couldn't find any original ones so got some ok aftermarket halogen ones (21w)

Cheers Tom

Bimota do use part of the FZR loom, but unfortunately only part of it!!

Bimota use Yamaha wiring on the engine, etc but then change to their own, and sometimes back to Yamaha. I've seen a few examples of inconsistent colour wiring, for example I've seen a plug with two wires entering (Brown and Yellow) then exiting on the other side of the same plug (pink and Green)

I'm just about to finish work so I'll have a look what happens when I pull the fuse.

Fuse no. 1 - 20 amp (nearest the front of the bike)
Not sure. Pulled the fuse but nothing appeared to stop working.

Fuse no. 2 - 20 amp
EXUP valve servo
Starter
Fuel pump

Fuse no. 3 - 20 amp
Dash - neutral lamp, clock lights, etc
Indicators
Headlights
Horn

Fuse no. 4 - 10 amp
Not sure

I didn't have the tank or seat fitted so couldn't check the cooling fans, brake light, coils, reserve solenoid, etc

Thanks Lam its good to know signals and lights are on the same fuse ( inc brakes btw) mine is second from front and fuel pump is third.
Of the two remaining one has much thicker wires (rear fuse on mine was fitted with 25A) don't know what it does either, I'm guessing the other is fans.
Do we have a main fuse anywhere? Don't think its the thick wired one because everthing seems to work without it.
Did you try cranking without the key?

Cheers Tom

Sorry for the delay I forgot to repost. My YB7 doesn't turn over without the ignition on and the kill switch in the run position.
