Posted: Tue Sep 22, 2015 5:24 pm Post subject: WHICH FIAT ECU SUITS A 1999 SB8RS |
|
|
Please can somebody categorically state which of the following Magneti Marelli ECU's will work on a 1999 SB8RS, and is it simply a case of swapping the EPROM? My ECU has Microtec written on it, and is identical in appearance to IAW 6F SB off a Punto. I have been told that the Cincequento ECU is used.
Cincequento IAW 16F ER
Cincequento IAW 16F EO
Or please supply the correct code. The bike will not run, there is no spark or injector signal. All engine sensors are working, and the ECU has been tested on a very helpful individuals bike.
Any help much appreciated |

I think someone on here said it was a modified fiat 500 ecu (marelli). I've looked on my ecu but the label is completely unreadable.
The ecu on mine was modified by North Leicester Motorcycles by a previous owner so might be worth a phone call to see if they can look at yours.
Best of luck |

Thanks for the info. Can you see anything at all on the label? Is it Marelli? Can you see what comes after IAW ?? I assume its off a Cincequento, being a 2 cylinder.... |

No numbers that are readable - mind you it had been in a workshop fire so I was surprised the ecu worked at all let alone had any numbers left !
On aftermarket units that I have seen for VW'S some are a multi purpose unit that is modified to suit the number of cylinders - have you tried emailing Bimota Classic Parts ? They would probably have a part number or maybe one on the shelf (don't know what the cost would be though). My only other suggestion is to get an electronics repair specialist to have a look - it may well be a dry joint or simple component replacement.
Sorry I can't be of more help |

Hello".....the ECU is a p7 which is used in most ie Italian machines....only the chip and the power modules change.
I use a P7 on the Cagiva elefants .......OEM on the IE900 and GT models but have also used Laverda GHOST ECU...bought for £50 then I changed the modules. ......And the chip
SIGMA performance were the Go To place for P7 and P8 mods....I do not know if they are still there but they were in KENT.
Do not get hung up on the number of engine cylinders.... P8 was used on the FORD cosworth...and a P7 on the FIAT 131 twin cam super miaforai......as per most things the ECU is just the Electronic brain it is the chip and modules that are tuned to the engine and tune the performance.....but they all have the same sensors...air..crank...TPS .....camshaft....water...oil etc etc.
Early P7s can be up graded to P8 and the chip sits on a piggy back to do this....anything is possible....I run a Lancia P8 on my 955 Cagiva with a power commander ironing out the wrinkles....whereas on the ST2 elefant...it is a P7 with a Uni-chip from FIM FIM are from AUSTRALIA and Dr DESMO had one of their laptop things and chip writers...he is also trading under the REDS MAX name in DEVON......he chipped by P7 for a 888 elefant..years ago...all done by post!!......I wrote down the Rev range and what I thought it (the engine) was doing and he wrote a new chip.....after a few weeks of back and forth...we had a running bike and firing well throughout the range
I hope this helps and does not confuse......any old Ducati 888 and 851 ECU or Laverda or Fiat..as long as it is the P7......then
change the innards to suit accordingly

Sorry about that but a large section of the text went south!,....iPads!
After the P7 the p8 arrived..faster processing....but the P7 could be adapted to cope......then came the IAW16...twice the speed of the one before but all have the same multi pin plug and all can be upped to the IAW speed.
Basically the brain is/are the same ....a bit faster but nothig which cannot be sorted by changing EPROM..chips modules or whatever.......they all use the same type of multi plugs and pins in the multi plugs...if you can find SIGMA they are great and can anything running .....using a P7...8...or 16

However....if no joy with SIGMA...I would go to Alistair Wager at Britalia.
He has worked on my Cagiva stuff....the supercharged 999 Squalo...and many Ducati classics.
Last month he a a BIMOTA on the bench and his knowledge of all things Italian is legendary......expect a wait though...but he does the stuff.
Google Britalia supermono....Northampton...near the A14
This is now the end of the text!,,

Okay...back on a PC.
What I was trying to say is : do not get too hung up on ECU style, number or model....any IAW 16 will do (with in reason) once you change the EPROM/chip and (if any) power modules.
Try to stick to the same year of manufacture but a 1999 IAW opens up all Ducati ST2-748-99-916-etc etc not to mention the other non Ducati injected Italian vehicles.....Fiats included. _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!

Wow, thanks Gavin, very useful.
So, in laymans terms, can i buy any IAW 16 module, and transfer the eprom/chip, plus any other detachable components from within the ECU, and it will behave exactly as it should have done before the fault occurred [assuming its not the eprom etc]?
Or, should i buy an IAW 6F, as the casing is identical to the 1999 Bimota SB8RS. I assume the internals will appear identical on both units? I have noticed that most IAW 6F units are 1993, so maybe Bimota used Magneti Marelli old stock?

Hello.....yes..in all my time mixing and matching there was only one occasion where not everything worked...I had a Lancia ECU fitted to an early 888 which would not switch over and activate the fuel pump (a Lancia ECU cost about £100 the OEM Ducati one was on sale from a Ducati tuner for £399)...so much head scratching and wire chasing.....no way was I paying the £399...this was back in 2001....turned out to be a faulty fuel pump relay....any IAW 16 will fire all the main components....it is just the specific innards which are matched to the bike/vehicle in question.
By the way the IAW 16 stands for the speed...ie double the processing speed of the P8 _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!

Hello"....no direct experience of the IAW 6......but if the ECU is similar size, case and input connection........you are well on your way
There is also a company called ECU Testing somewhere in the UK who can clarify .....not if it is the right ECU ....but if it actually doing what it is meant to being.
I hope this helps ....good luck _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!

Fantastic. Thanks again Gavin.
All i need now, is somebody who can supply a mapped Eprom, either standard, or sensibly upgraded from standard. |

Try a EPROM from P Line based in Germany
I have used them many times to get close....then booked the dyne once all was within basic range
Order the chip as this....basic Bimota...open air box ...race pipes ?..then..next one Plus 10....20...whatever %......just write your bikes set up...maybe standard...maybe race exhaust...whatever...they normally do 3 chips for 70 euros or do....but it has been a while
I hope this hels _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!
