What is the proper way of adjusting the choke plunger travel? Mine will not extend enough to keep the bike running cold. I saw the collar holding the cable and the screw. I couldn't figure a way of getting a screw driver in there. |

The choke indents at full travel, and you are right, the 5 valve series are cold blooded, however you are not stuck with full choke, as you can feed it back in as the engine comes to life. There will always be a bit of a struggle between full choke and around 50 degrees when things settle down.
Have a look where the choke cable comes out of the bottom of the triple clamps and back to the motor. The cables kink there and make choke pull hard. As well as stiffness and the potential for broken cable-wire strands (you will need a new cable), the cable also stretches.
I have used double wall adhesive heat shrink in consecutive layers to reinforce the cable as it comes through the triple clamp bottom, and pulled the choke cable back through the clamp on the carburettor clamp to compensate for stretching. (the bearings were cleaned at a later point)

Hi
To get the cable off, remove the carbs (sorry). Once the carbs are released you can get at the connection of the cable to the carbs. Disconnect that and feed it back under the bottom yoke. Then you can undo the large bolt on the top yoke and life out the choke knob. There is a small allen key bolt on the side of it. Undo this, then you can rotate the choke knob in the large bolt and unhook the cable from the inside of it.
All the best
