|
|
Hi guys, I am in the process of replacing my drive line and was wondering which way the front front sprocket should be fitted. When I took it off the short shoulder was toward the engine, but wear marks on the inboard side of the sprocket make me question whether the tall boss should be there. Of course the shop book does not address this!
Thanks for any eludication, Spike _________________ Spike C.

The more that I look at the more it looks like the high boss goes against the engine. Which means that it was backward for the last 11000 miles! _________________ Spike C.

So has no one ridden their DB5R enough miles to need chain and sprocket replacement? _________________ Spike C.

hi spike,
your engine sprocket was fitted correct :- the narrow shoulder to the engine, the large shoulder to the nut. I have just checked my db6 after i read your message.
ps I am on my second set of sprockets |

Thanks for the input mick, after close inspection I have decided that the wide shoulder has to be toward the engine on my bike. The front sprocket that I removed had excess wear on the engine side, and no wear on the outside surface. It was definitely not aligned with the rear sprocket, hastening wear of all of the components. How many miles are you getting out of a set mick?
I expect an alloy rear to wear faster than a steel one, but mine had 6 teeth broken off and the rest looking quite chewed up! _________________ Spike C.

I have a bimota dbx and out of interest I checked the sprocket on that, and it is fitted the opposite way to the db6 ! so it looks like you could be right especially with the broken teeth. I changed the chain and sprockets at approx 10,000 miles, they were probably half worn but i had fitted lighter wheels and they came with a Talon rear sprocket, I also went down a tooth on the front sprocket. |
