does the sb8r need a TRE (timing retard eliminator)?

no- it needs a PCIII and a custom map.

The timing retard eliminator may already be disconnected or recalibrated by Bimota.Its in there because some tiny Japanese guy spent loadsa hours pulling away and retarded the ignition in first gear to allow a non wheeling launch or the best launch they thought possible in stock trim.If you eliminate it,it may wheelie more in the earlier gears Twisted Evil

Depending on the model and ecu type it may just need a 6800ohm resistor down to earth after cutting the gear position sensor wire.
You will also change the fuel mapping slightly in which case a Power Commander will be the order of the day. Smile

my man at powerhouse dyno on the goldie said i shoould put in a PCIII but i already have a PCII...would it make that much difference ya reckon??

It really depends how far you want to go ... f your happy with the way it fuels then you don't need a new PC3.
There's a PC5 too which can carry a map to tune the cylinders independantly.

Have a look on the web for changes between PC2 and 3 then decide if the extra dosh is worth it

The PC 2 is a sensor modifying technology and the PC 3 directly modifies the signal to the injector.The PC2 will have some fueling 'float' thats to say that it will lag behind slightly where the change is made.So as the engine accelerates in first gear the change may arrive 1500rpm later whereas the change in 6th gear maybe as close as 500rpm as the rate of change is slower.At cruise it all catches up so its sorta spot on.
The PC3 is a 'live' change so is always 'in sync'.
The main sensor for fueling change on the PC2 is the Atmospheric Air Pressure sensor as the air pressure doesn't change that quickly this sensor isn't looked at by the ECU that often per second,which is why it has a certain lag and is a bit hit and miss.
PC 3 is far superior BUT the ability to tune the front and rear cylinders on a V twin is well worthwhile so the Power Commander 5 is well worth considering.
