as the title says, I recently sold my 1990 BMW R100 GS. Had for over a year. It was a great machine, and I may have kept it around if I had a longer inseam. I'm currently left with 3 bikes in my garage and sort of at the crossroads what's next... My wife says 3is too many but my thoughts are leaning towards another airhead, most notably an R100R. Interested in hearing feed back on experience on this or ANY other motorcycle models. _________________ 1991 Bimota YB10

Even though you are in "general Chat" section permitting "other bikes"...posting it on a Bimota Forum is only going to lead to recommendations for yet another Bimota......
So...In order of preference
DB2
DB4
DB5R/DB6R
2-stroke Vdue...well...that should be at the top of the list really
I've put the more modern DB5 and DB6 below the others...as I still am preferring the no-nonsense NO ECU carb fed bike era.....Just much less hassle generally and more thought and emotion provoking than Slipper clutch this,,,ABS that...Sidestand switch this yaddy Ya....... |

I think my Bimota stock is pretty much at the limit for the time being. Of course there can never be enough Bimotas in the garage I can pick up a YB11 for relatively not much $$ but the timing is off. VDue is a great suggestion, but unless it already has current California registration it will not be allowed on the streets here due to severe restrictions on registering any two stroke bike bike here. This just another barbaric State tactic towards enthusiasts....
I am still trying to figure out whether to retain the R11S Boxer Cup. Everyone seems to love this bike for its all around versatility - sport and touring coupled with great looks. To me it feels very top heavy, especially now after rising the YB10. It may be the next candidate for sale. I'm thinking keeping the stable to 3 bikes maximum.
So far my list of petential rides consists of:
1) R100R - in black
2) Moto Guzzi California Vintage - in black
3) HD XR1200 - in black _________________ 1991 Bimota YB10

Today I sort of answered my own question: picked up an '89 Honda XL600V Transalp. Rare bird in the States being sold here for short time ('89-'91) at which time they were a bit of a flop. Now that older Japanese iron is becoming hot in the States, these along with GB500 are becoming a cult bike- sort of like airhead GS. The bike is nothing much to look at, with 65k miles and some battle scars, but it runs ok and doesn't smoke. I wasn't too intent on buying it but the seller accepted a low ball offer and off I went. I was pleasantly surprised how much lighter the s bike feels compared to the GS I just sold. Took it to my buddy's shop for clean up and chain replacement. Don't think I'll be keeping it for long though, not a fan of high mileage bikes, especially those intended for off roading... _________________ 1991 Bimota YB10

The "Trany Slap" isn't really an off road bike, it's more a good commuter / tourer, the engine won't let you down an it makes a lot of sense where the roads aren't well kept _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Good one, Evilchicken. Haven't heard that one before
I did read that these were, at best, gravel bikes but the last two I've seen were used off road. Same owner for both. Cosmetically they were beat to shit but ran nice. In the end I couldn't come to an agreement on the price. I guess it's something that I want to experience and then pass on. _________________ 1991 Bimota YB10

You seem to like v twins. You have a Harley on the list. Have you thought about a vrod night rod special. 2008 to 2010, they had the rounded better looking (in my opinion) tail piece. That motor is a nice piece. I had one, it was the fastest Harley I've ever been on. And the sound. _________________ Jack

You are right. I didn't realize it but there're quite a bit of v-twins there. I do like the torque that a v-twin will pull out. I ride quite a bit in the hills so its more about coming out of the corner going uphill.
I rode the piss out my BCR today and it put into perspective hey I bought the bike in the first place. It's no Bimota, for sure, but it has its own niche under the sun. Riding it today made me reconsider selling it. So it looks like I'll be back to 4 bikes, again.
I still want to get my hands and n a clean RC51. IMO, these are future collectibles. Even now it seems that the prices have firmed up with clean mid-20's bikes going closer to $6k rather than $4k just a year ago.
As for HD, XR1200 is my first choice with Dyna FatBob strong 2nd. Night rod is a cool looking bike but I never warmed up to liquid cooled Harleys the same way I don't think I'll ever want to have a liquid cooled Boxer. Problem with HD is that there's at least a dozen of them at every stop light on any given weekend (ok, so I exaggerated a bit - maybe half dozen ). I don't want to be part of the herd. That's another plus for the Bimota. It has everything I can ask for in terms of performance, styling, distinction and great history. Few bikes can match that. The SB8R is pure sex on two wheels and the YB10 is retro Superbike cool! _________________ 1991 Bimota YB10

Marketed as Brutale 800 here. The specs are impressive, good read. Quite a bit of scratch for one though, especially given MV's spotty reputation at least here in the States. _________________ 1991 Bimota YB10

Well, the Translap is history. Sold to a gentleman who will be riding it to Latin America. Cool bike and felt much easier to handle than my former R100 GS. I rode it in the canyons again for the last time today. All good but felt lacking... _________________ 1991 Bimota YB10

I guess a vacant spot in my garage cannot stay vacant too long. Just made a deal on a 1987 Cagiva Alazzurra SS 650 with under 7k miles and full set of fairings. Bike should be arriving next week. The RC51 stil eludes me... Will Cagiva be a keeper, for at least until the end of summer? Who knows...my march through the Italian bike world continues _________________ 1991 Bimota YB10
