Hi Guys, had my Vdue for about 2 years and had no issues , its been perfect! Last Sunday holed a piston on top pot. I was FLAT out for a very long time before it popped. Oil feed still there and never got over hot. Didnt seize.Bore appears ok apart from a bit of aluminium pick up above the top ring from molten metal. This is normally caused by incorrect ignition timing but other pot fine.
Is this a know problem? Any ideas guys please?[/url]

Hi Trev, simple answer "I don't know". Bike is Steve Knowles old one (Homer Simpson?). Its an evolution with carbs on an 03 plate. Head is held on with 7No. allen bolts and has two "o" ring seals.
Is this new or old style and would it make a difference?
Thanks

Lets say late heads the late heads are different in the chamber shape.

Has it got the after market FTR ignition plate ?
It is adjustable and maybe out ?

Hi again , I will have to check, first time I have had the fairing off cos I have had no need. I will check if it is adjustable , good call!.However if the cylinders are not individually adjustable probably not as other pot shows no bad signs?

Hi again Trev, sorry for delay in reply, been to Jerez for motogp over the weekend.
Its the top of the piston in the centre but nearer the exhaust port.
Now got other head off to have a look and its perfect if anything running slightly rich. Also got barrel , piston and little end off the bad pot,
Luckily the bore looks perfect with no scores. there was globules of aluminium resting in the reeds on the inlet side which i have removed and cleaned out.
Still at a loss to understand why the holing as i haven't found anything really wrong yet. will look at jetting and will try to get a photo up on here.

Email or sms me the photo DaftGeorge and I'll post it if you want!

Surprised you are already feeling well enough to work on the VDue after Jerez Smile

Here you go DaftGeorge - here's the image - to me it looks like the piston may have holed because your head is too hot......

Oooops wrong image - that one looks like Jerez Wink

Here you go.....

thanks for putting the pic(s) on for me Belly .
As you all can see there is definitely an over-heating issue!

It has got the right plugs in it has'nt it ?

My Bro had an RD400 may years ago, when he bought it it had long reach plugs in it to 'give a bit more power' , as the previous owner said. Few hundred miles later a very similar thing happened.

Classic detonation failure.
Causes....
Timing too advanced
Mixture weak at a given point
Incorrect heat range of plug.

Is it on std pipes?

Hi again fellow vdue-ites !
Chassis no. ZESVT5000WR000274
Plugs NGK BR9EIX (I thick these are correct)
Main jets BOTH 220 (I know they are supposed to be different by about 5. Hope its the top cylinder that needs to be bigger) Please let me know.
Ignition spec is a bit scare in the manual. There is no mention of it being adjustable so that is why i think there is no BTDC spec quoted.
As one of my pots is running fine and the pots are not individually adjustable i am not looking here for a problem.
At present the only issue i see is the jetting.
Your thoughts please.
Thanks
