In the next issue of Practical Sportsbikes (out 15th June) there will be a 'Bimota DB2 Buyer' Guide'. I would be surprised if no-one on the forum has not had any input. Apt timing along with 2bims restoration thread (pure coincidence I am sure Wink ) on here for anyone thinking of getting the fine DB2 model. Smile

Input from someone on this Forum?????????

To be frank....instead of 2Bims....I'd be quite mortified if he didnt put my name down as the author of the article.....Having done my DB2 in the magaine a few years ago...and the "BimotaHeads" piece...and the pup Ducati 900ss...Alan Seeley the editor has my mobile phone number for calls, texts and my email addie.....and my ears are now so bent from his calls/texts and emails....I've landed a starring role in the next Lord of the Rings sequel.......

Only aside I have from assisting is that any editor often likes to elucidate and wax lyrically for effect.....and not letting me see his draft before going to print...so I apologise for any errors/mis-truths etc etc.....

Be interesting to see what he has to say...he was asking about prices...saying "6K's about right eh?"....I said find me a Superlight 900ss for 6k maybe...but never a Db2 unless its a basket case...so hopefully I set him straight on that one...Back in 1994...a Brand new Superlight was 8K on the road...a DB2??? UK list price was 14K......thus DB2's are a bargain compared to a Superlight at todays market prices...and really a far superior beast still with looks up to date....

Was it in this months magazine that there was to be an article?...Have sort of skimmed this months mag but must have missed that bit.........

What was "enlightening"....was how much you forget the "early days" of owning your first Bimota...and the rather rapid familiarisation process you have to go through in finding what generic parts Bimota used rather than Bimota home spun one-offs...and learning what bikes by other larger companies used those same parts to make ordering and buying easier.....as evidently with no Old timer Bimota dealers in the UK....it makes for a steep learning curve that I had since forgotten....and evidently via this Forum....begins the gain of "The Knowledge..."

The Editor of the article threw me this list of spare parts and where to get prices from.....He tried the BCP website....but couldnt search or access the spare parts diagrams as you have to enter what Bimota you own...and seeing as he doesnt own one...was immediately thwarted...so the list came my way...and other than the Bodywork pattern stuff from Germany...I was able to fill in the rest of the blanks without much-a-do...Strange how when you have learnt something it seems second nature and the pain of the indoctrination into the Brand that is Bimota fades into the distance...pleasure always concurs pain.....well almost always...HEres the list he threw at me....Poor fellow...expected me to fill in how much for new exhausts....haHa....how little the uneducated know.....

Obviously some of these are generic but the DB2 specific parts are the issue.

Can you help? Do you have a membership with them?

Best,

Alan

On the topic of compatible spare parts the DB2 headlight can also be found on the faired version of the MZ Skorpion, as well as the smaller Yamaha variants of the day. I understand there is a ready supply of these in Aus somewhere. I had to change out the headlight on the DB2 I once owned from the LH drive version it came with to a Right hand drive version. I managed to locate a second hand Yamaha item but the internal configuration was quite different. The LHD version had discreet High and Low beam lamps left and right. The Yamaha RHD version was symmetrical with both lamps being high and low beam items. i then found out the bulbs were completely non standard and some special Yamaha item that cost a small fortune. A new sub loom was then manufactured to accommodate the new set out - part of the joy of Bimota ownership I guess.

Cheers
Nigel

Has anyone ever done a list of what the parts are off for the DB2 or equivalent on other bikes, it would be a great thing to have. If not it would be good if everybody chipped in with the info they have got over the years. I'm at a disadvantage being a newbie and know next to bugger all!!, mind you every time I come on the forum I find out something, which is great

Well...thats what the Forums for really......several folk have tasked and offered to do such a list for all Bimotas...but its never quite come about to reality.

DB2 doesnt have that much generic part sharing on it.....theres only really the brakes, calipers, masters that are all Brembo...and then the clocks and switchgear which is all shared by Ducati models....evidently the engine and electrics also....and headlight, mirrors and rear light already identified...and thats about your lot really....which is pretty much the same for most Bimotas, Frames, bodywork, clip-ons, footpegs, gear/brake foot levers, swinging arm, wheels, front and rear mudguard, exhaust system, yokes, screen are all Bimota bespoke.....Rear shocks Ohlins or Paioli, front forks Marzocchi or Paioli
