Hi all,

i just changed the exhaust on my DB5. the original to a galasetti, its just a slip on so no major changes. afterwards i fired up the engine and gave it a ride. fine so far but i noticed than that the indicators did not work. with not working i mean that all 4 did not work and also the sign in the cockpit was not working. after that i put the bike on the stand and wanted to restart . but it did not work.

i had to push the bike back to the garage. i had the battery loaded up now but that did nothing.

when turning around the key to ignition position at first everything is normal . the cockpit (KOSO) does everything completely normal, all lights show up, nothing unusual. also the fuel pump is running up. but thats it. oh yes and the low beam and back light is shining

the ignition button does NOTHING. and yes i am pulling the clutch, i do haveneutral in and sidestand in.

what is also NOt working: indicator lights including the cockpit sign (only wotking at start up),
low /high beam switch
Horn
headlight flasher

what is working:

the kill button: pressing it makes the fuel pump start again

can it be that i do have a dead battery. i do remember that the low/high beam switch did work at first after the short ride. but than not anymore

i am thinking that given the sign that somehow all the signals from the left handelbar are not going through . all the switches on the left side do nothing, obviously including the clutch switch. this stops the ignition button on the right side to start the starting procedure.

i checked the connection under the cockpit but from eyesight did not find anything loose.

pls help guys!
cheers,

robert

Check all the easy stuff first. Fuses, connectors, battery terminals. Double check and connectors or plugs that you may have recently had apart. What else did you remove or pull apart when you did the exhaust work?

nothing actually just the exhaust . oh yes and the 2 screws of the plate holder but not the electrics (even if i would hace done anything therer, i would jsut be the rear indicators not working)

where is the fuse box on the db5?

oh yes, jsut to add, the cockpit itself is working as is front and back light. front only the low beam as the switch to high does not do anything.

i dont think its the battery. why? because the fuel punp is still working. i guess that takes more power than the horn or the indicators

ok, i checked the fuse box.

Fuse number 3, a blue one, was defective, clearly visible. changed it. all working again.

good but also not good. the question is: why did fuse number 3 snap? afaik a fuse does not go just defective after a while, there has to be some underlying issue leading to that?

or is it normal for this to happen from time to time?

Have you trapped any wires when doing the exhaust ? Rear light loom ?
What does fuse 3 do ?

An odd one....fuse No. 3 is for LH turn indicator.....Fuse 1 is injection, Fuse 2 is RH turn indicator, Fuse 4 is services, fuse 5 is headlamp and horn Fuse 7 is main 30amp fuse......dont understand what fuse 6 is from the DB5 workshop manual description....and Owners handbook is none the wiser, steering clear of telling you what fuse does what........Usually its an overload.....but they can just go ping after a while...which is why they provide spares...all wired up to the ECU also so maybe that switched off other items as a precaution as it knew a fuse had been blown

Ok so i will Look At it if that happens again .

If so it has to be something with the indicators and their cables . I assume the rear , since I had to demontage the plate holder . Maybe in that process a wire has been compromised .

Still does not explain the fuse breaking though ? I mean if a wire to the indicator is defective it would just stop blinking ?

I never heard that fuses are just normally breaking after a while ... I mean why should they if everything is correct ?

You may be over examining things....its Italian....with Italian electrics....and can be tempermental just for the sake of it......fuses carry current all the time...and are there to protect circuits from surges in current...so its done its job.....fit new one...and forget....unless theres a next time.....

yes, lets hope it holds up now!

the fuse box itself is not burnt or anything. it was just the wire inside fuse number 3 that was broken through. i guess you are right, also a light bulb wire does brake after some time in the end.

the Galassetti does look nice on the bike though AND comes with an e number and certificate so it is afaik the only street legalaftermarekt solution for the db5 , i will upload some pics

it costed me 1000 euros new from DRT schneider in Langenpreising including the connection pipes fitting is very good.

sound is not too loud with the db killers. eventually i will try without the killers some time, just to get the neighbourhood out of their sleeping beauty state and give them some material to bitch about.
