The clutch cover housing also had a factory gasket when removed as if they intended a little oil to be in there???? |

Alright. So eagerly anticipating my carbon clutch cover that ships today I removed the closed factory clutch cover and about a teaspoon of oil, looks old was trapped in there. Now I will assume this is a smart clutch bike lol. Why would I have some oil in the housing? Any ideas where it would be coming from? Sure doesn't look like my new oil I just put in 300v 10-40. Thoughts ? |
A slight "weep" from the bearing seal behind the clutch basket no doubt.....Possibly from the seal drying out over years of engine not being used and stored...? And then with use being lubricated, heated up, and then sealing again.....Oil seals always dry up and then shrink on engines not being used....recommendation for bikes being stored away for a period is NOT to drain the oil....bit to fill it beyond fill levels to ensure bearings and seals stay covered...and then to drain out to normal level when returning to service...At least when a vented cover is fitted you'll be able to keep an eye out for any continuation |

Wow. Started it up with factory cover off. The dry clutch definitely makes some serious noise. Sounds great. I should have the clutch cover over the next few days though it was interesting dealing with MDI. More on that later. In the mean time, I am going to clean the clutch.
Just use compressed air no chemicals right? I've read guys using contact cleaner to brake cleaner to soap and water.

certainly looks befitting to grace a bimota......and a fraction of the weight.....just a case of seeing how much dust it lets out during operation.... |
