I have just bought an unused 1996 YB11 and during running in, a hemisperical crack has developed around one of the allen bolts that holds the fairing to the bellypan. The dealership has told me that this is not their overzealous tightening but the bodywork is notoriously brittle and is a common issue. Sounds like a fob off to me, but I'd invite opinions before I challenge them. Thank you

I had a YB11 for ten years and yes cracks appear around the fasteners, it came with cracks when I brought it and cracks appeared whilst I owned it. So in my opinion not a fob off, just part of the joys of Bimota ownership. And for future reference fork seals are notoriously hard to get, I was lucky to get some from a member on here. I loved my YB11 and regretted selling it and if it came back up for sale id buy it back in a second, still the best top gear roll on bike I have ridden.

Thanks! I feel better already. I am quite familiar with bike peculiarities being a Laverda owner, but was worried about having a wobbly fairing with scallop shaped bite marks missing all round. The shop is still amazed that I am actually riding it; hilarious. And I am still amazed it lasted on sale for 11 months. I will always be taken aback by how many people pass on purchasing an unusual Italian bike, when to me its all about individualism, and kinship with the machine and fellow enthusiasts. And all for far less than say an R1. I know, people want a safe buy, but I will always find it a curious phenomenon. Thanks again for steadying my nerves with my new venture into the world of Bimota

I can't speak for the yb11 but I have a db4 and the fairing on it is crap. It seems very thin and fragile and has cracks around some of the fastener holes.

An indication of the financial wows of Bimota at the time the db4 was manufactured I think. The fairing on the sb6 on the other hand is very sturdy and of good quality

Having posted my question about a tiny fairing crack, I now have the courage to post a reply. Later that day (!) I was run off the road by a drunk driver!!! So 35mph along the bank, across the road and a 20 mph stoppie in the hedge; but I didn't drop it!! All a bit sad as the bike has been languishing in a german oxygen tent, unstarted for 20 years, and I was only running it in. So this was my first "off" in 30 years of riding and was completely unavoidable. On the down side, I wish I had been on the FJ1200 which would have demolished the car. On the upside, damage was minimal and completely repairable (when the Italians come back off holiday!), I only got minor concussion (and a new insurance-paid helmet), and my Jota is currently in top nic and providing the perfect distraction.

Jeez, sorry to hear about the incident. Could have been a lot worse by the sounds. Glad you're ok. Hope the bike is all good

That's bad news but on the upside you're ok and the bike is repairable.
