Well I have just finished installing my new Engine and now I have a new challenge to keep me from riding
She started first time and after letting her warm up and a few pre ride checks, I decided to take her out.
First problem was she kept stalling as soon as I put her into gear, both the Neutral light and the Side stand light on the dash were as they should be.
I cycled the Side stand and Neutral switch several times until at last she let me put her in Gear.
About a quarter of a mile down the road she started playing around again, either cutting out completely then starting ok and running for a few hundred Meters when she would either cut out completely again or cut out several times in a row as if someone was flicking the engine kill switch on and off.
I don't suppose anyone has an updated wireing diagram as the downloadable one is for the original injection model.
I think it may be a problem with the sidestand relay but don't know where to find this, it may even be integral to the new Dash. |

Hi Trev
Carb new Dash.
I've checked all the plugs that have been disturbed and also checked the operation of the Neutral and Side stand switches.
The Bike did do this on a couple of rides before the Engine change, but it was only a brief hiccup early on in the ride and was ok afterwards.

Check the plugs to the dash I had a problem like this on one of mine
(got five VDUES)
It was the neutral light wire that was loose in the connector on the left
plug when you sit on the bike , fingers crossed

The other problem I had was on a VDUE was the washer on the neutral
switch on the motor was too thick so it was not working properly
when it was running it did what you are talking about cutting out
I just put a new switch in to be sure , toes crossed hahhahahaaa

Hi trev
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look at all the wires on both plugs to the dash just to make sure.
The Neutral switch should only make a difference when starting the bike. once the engine is running, as long as the side stand is up, it dosen't matter if the bike is in Neutral or in gear, so i'm pretty sure its not that switch.
I still think the side stand relay is worth looking at (page 14/8 of the electrical system pdf)
But I'm not sure where it is
As you say, Keep it simple, it probably is just a loose wire somewhere but without a relevant wireing diagram it's not so easy to find.

If the neutral light or side stand comes on it will cut the engine
It can be a flicker that you did not notice etc
On the new dash the neutral light goes to the CDI its not just a light on the dash etc
I just remembered that I did have a side stand that was playing up it was adjustment that fixed it , it was going past the switch when riding / moving
Don't forget there is a 6mm bolt for the side stand as well that goes in the frame had one of them missing so the side stand went past the switch ( slipped around )

Hi trev
Yep, definatly keeping the milage down
Side stand appears to be adjusted correctly and the bolt is in the frame where it should be.
If the Engine were to cut when the neutral light comes on then the bike would stall if put into Neutral, I think
