so glad I didn't cancel the billet cover - it did arrive and it's a beaut. I did give up hope of receiving it so during my wait I sourced an OE cover from the local Suzuki dealer. The billet cover and the factory part both arrived the same time. Anyhow, after spending time to clean all the gunk from the case surface I got the billet cover on.

I used thread lock on the bolts and torqued them down to 8 ft-lb in a star pattern. Added Suzuki engine oil and voila, the bike started pretty easily after spending overnight on a trickle charger. No leaks so far, knock on wood. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet. I held off on reinstalling the fairing until I get a chance ride her around the neighborhood for few miles.

Question: when should I be retorquing the bolts?

With threadlock on you should be OK....I use an indelible Sharpie marker to put a dot on the bolt heads and casings so that you can easily view if the bolt has moved without having to retorque....if you've threadlocked them you shouldnt really be re-torqing anyhow as you'd be breaking the already dried threadlock......the marks can be polished out from a sharpie with just furniture spray polish....as metal doesnt "take" with the indelible sharpie pens.....use as a quick visual check on spindles, clamps etc etc.....You can buy special yellow dot marker pens....that stays on but is easily wiped off...

Cool. Less work to do. Will test ride several times to make sure that the cover was the root of the leak. Can't wait to to get her all buttoned up and tear through the canyons. As much as I love the feel and response of the YB10, the TL-R's sound is just awesome!

Took a while to report back. Great news, leak issue resolved. Vanzuki cover worked its magic. Took the SB8R out for a spin in the canyons with the lower fairings off to see for oil leaks. She was dry as the desert sand at high noon. Buttoned her up, going to a local car show. Got to show the cagers what life is all about....

Looking good George.

Say, you don't want to swap some of that boring Californian sunshine for some of our lovely British rain do you? Wink

Johny, you are welcome to as much California sunshine you see in the picture. Today was quite overcast with bit of drizzle. Have to be careful in the canyons, all the oily rags run through there dripping fluids...
