I've just bought a YB5 and i know nothing about these!!! Well, other than it has the world's best looking frame, and an FJ1200 motor.

It has less than 9,200 original kilometeres and has Akront rims!

Thanks Brian,

there are a few things that need sorting, i haven't had a good look at it yet, tomorrow i'll go clean it and have a good look, there is slight pitting on some of the surfaces, mainly front indicators, top yoke and mufflers, the old owner lived a couple of hundred meters from the beach.

It has the most woeful steering lock and the throttle cables catch on the ignition barrel, so i need to figure out why.

I have got to research the rims and find out if the Akront rims were factory. They look really nice.

I started it up for a few minutes, it runs smoothly but is running very rich, lots of black smoke, it might just be carbon build up in the mufflers, i might have to clean them out Smile

I don't know what to do with the plates, i can't use them in Vic, so i need to see if i can sell them or not.

Condition looks even better in yr photo than the original ad!
Akront bolt up wheels were defo original factory fit.
The fastest YB5 on the planet is the Aus YB5 racer (see earlier thread here) but even in standard trim like yrs it looks the business.

If it was mine I'd be investing in some later twin pot Brembos and upgrading the suspension (Maxton suspension here in the UK told me that the QA on M1R forks from the factory was about the worst of any set up that they get through their doors)

But that's just me knitpicking as I'm so JEALOUS Laughing

Enjoy!

Hi Steve
I was after the bike as well, but your deposit went down before mine
I hope you enjoy it, if you don't let me know

Hi Gerald,

Peter told me there was someone from Sydney and Perth who were interested, that is why i committed so quickly, it really was a spur of the moment decision as i've always wanted a steel framed Bimota, this one ticks all the boxes.

I hope to be taking both the YB5 and SB6 to the Barry Sheene Classic at Eastern Creek in March, hopefully we can catch up.

I've also started a Bimota YB5 FB page to document my journey with this bike, so feel free to follow and contribute, i need all the help i can get as there are so few of these around!

I had my first shake down ride today, a flat battery caused a small delay, the bike rides great, it coughs and farts until about 4,000rpm, then carburetes cleanly. The steering lock is the worst on any bike i've ever ridden, the fuel lines don't have clamps, the throttle cable gets caught on the ignition barrel and the front brake hoses rub on the fork legs...

So just a few things to sort out, when removing the bodywork to get to the battery, i found this..... Very Happy....

I couldn't bear to part with that plate Steve, hang it on your wall. Otherwise, let me know and I'll buy it off you Wink
