|
|
Hi
I am looking at purchasing a DB9 its advertised as 2015,
My question is:
It has a single front disk, but I see pics of other DB9 with dual front disk
When was this single disk version issued?
Also if you have any other interesting bits of info to look out for on a DB 9
would be good to know
Cheers |

The very first "test mule" DB9 frame no 00....had a single front perimeter disc set-up on the LHS of the front wheel....and some later production bikes also rather than twin 320mm Brembo set-up....Each to their own.....Same sort of set up that Buell used in WSB.......they tried switching to twin 320mm brembos and ran 1-2 seconds faster around the circuit...but weren't allowed to adopt that for racing as for WSb it had to use what the production bikes used....Should be all black carbon colour scheme?? |

Thanks for info. Yes your correct its black with a lot of carbon. When did the factory stop making the single disk version? The seller is claiming its a 2015
I tried to upload a pic of the bike, but could not figure out how to. |

2015 sounds about right.....The full frame number of the bike on the headstock contains the year the frame was produced....and maybe this is 2014.....with the bike being produced and or registered the following year....Can be the same with cars....the registration certificate relates to the first year of road registration, which can be some time after actual production |

This.
My DB8SP was registered in 2012, but it's an actual 2010, the 2nd db8 produced |

The single disc was the 'SP' version so lots of unpainted carbon.
Just another little trinket of info is the single front disc bikes have a larger rear disc, think its 240 not 220 as standard, which means if you were ever in the market for a rear disc or caliper carrier bracket you need to be careful which you get. |

Hard to say with it being a "south African" bike and not one necessarily made for sale in Europe......American bikes are/were stamped up with a different sequence of code numbers than EU bikes...
Normally they always have 3 things in the number....the designation of the bike...DB09.....place of manufacture..."R" for Rimini.....and the year made...say 08, 09...yours seems to have none of these....but then if it has a matching document, is there a worry? There should also be a sticker with the same frame number on the left side footpeg hanger....and there is a third stamped on a frame rail but "hidden" from sight in case of theft.
As an example...my DB5R is
ZESDB051R8R000021 - Thus containing DB05....Made in "r"imini......in 08
My DB6R is very similar...Euro models always had 17 digits in the frame number
ZESDB06018R000221 |

Prob is I cant get to see the bike easily as its >1000km away in Natal

Morning to you, South Africa
I have one of the three DB9 here in the UK
VIN NUMBER ZESDB0900 CR 000013 ...no idea what it means!
The DB9S (single disc type) I viewed at the factory was 00 last digits and that was a demo/press bike from what I recall.
DB9 great bike a bit flighty ..forks difficult and rear suspension only suitable for India where they put 3 people on a bike!
other than that ...best bike I have owned...a total hoot on the road and capable of making me ride better than I actually can.
I changed over the rear seat assembly (I am big boned..bless) and the number plate subframe....some folk like them otheres dont.
Go enjoy and let me know if you want to change the seat unit...I have a one piece carbon unit !! Any other questions....just ask

Bugger, no luck with purchase of the DB9
The dealer advertising it did not actually have the bike, he had been stuffing me around for 3 weeks. I eventually found who the owner was, and he had just sold it for reasonable money...
It would have made a perfect pair with my DB7 its same black styling

For anyone who was interested the bike was a DB9s Carbon.
They all have perimeter brakes and naked carbon fibre.
They only made 28 so are a rare old beast.
You can get the rear shock fixed by having it revalved.
I did this and the guy that did it who is a Öhlins Turner said it was perfectly a good shock just poorly set up for such a light bike. I did it with both my Bimota’s and it improved the ride and performance massively.
Shame you didn’t get it they are lovely things to own. |
