Hi Vort have you spoken to a private motorcycle claim solicitor, could be worth paying for an hour of their time to see if you could get a better resolution.


I had Dream Machine paint my RD500. They picked all the panels up and returned them as part of the price of the respray, they will even collect your whole bike, remove the panels and then refit. It was about 4 years ago and it cost £1300 but there are a lot of parts to paint. Overall I could not fault the quality of the paintwork, but my nosecone went back 3 times before they actually got the inside looking how I wanted.

I have just insured with Peter James, guess I need to get agreed values sorted with them.

Possibly shouldn't be saying this...as I'm with PJ also.....I read thru all the smallprint...seems not worth having "agreed value"....as even if you go thru the process....upon claim time...they can dispute it and pay market value...as evidently values change...can go up or down being the "market value"...I just saw that there was extra time and expense involved in getting valuers to assess bikes....and even then...the insurance company retained the right to question upon claim time.....I used to be with Footman James...until they cunningly removed the 3rd party cover on riding "other peoples bikes"...something that PJ still cover...but FJ ruled out 3 years ago but didn't mention....its all in the smallprint

Luckily for me there is another DB5R for sale which is helping with the market value issue.
Problem is with Bimota there are not always other bikes for sale so the value is going to be hard to prove.
All I can say is I would air on the side of caution and value your bikes to what you would expect to pay in a specialist dealer, as those are the only ones you will be able to get if the worst happens and you need to make a claim.

It is not that the damage to my bike is that extensive , its just that the fairing panels and a few other bits are not available so it is not easy to fix. Plus the insurance company obviously does not want to deal with anything out of the norm that does not appear in their online catalogue of part price's.
