The author does like to wax lyrically about the bikes......Some prices seem there or there abouts if not a bit on the high side......I do think that they have all been merely parked up with or without damage...he references a crack in the YB11 windshield 2 inches long...because..."everyone knows that Bimota parts are almost unobtainable...."....so I question the maintenance as I could point him to 3 places with stock of original YB11 screens...and TBH....if he cant change a cracked screen...what else hasn't he changed???...could be that all of the bikes need recomissioning |

He also says he has all his other Bimotas coming up for sale....hes not clearing up his entire collection of bikes...just the bimotas...coz if he sells one his Bimota collection of 18 bikes would no longer be complete......Hhmm,,....I think a "complete" collection...if you are going up to age of YB11....should be nearer 30....and as far as "recommissioning" goes...for some bikes stored for 15 years he suggests only needing a "battery"....Hhmmm
I admire the collection but any serious buyer can easily see through the words....I would imagine if anyone visited it would be difficult not to let a total collection of over 130 bikes sway you into buying high.... |

The YB11 with 3000km and cracked windscreen is listed for US$21,000 at the top of the page, and a very similar YB11 with 3000km and cracked windscreen is listed for US$12,000 further down the page. Same bike????
Probably hard to keep a track of these things when you have 150 bikes. |

Reality check.
Here's my YB11 story. Las Vegas motorcycle auction 2015. I had heard of bimotas, didn't really know that much about them. Loved the looks of the YB11, got caught up in bidding, next thing I knew I had bought it for $9,500. The bike showed 26 km on the odometer, and from the appearance, mileage was believable. So, didn't sound too bad right? Add action fee and sales tax, I'm now up to over $11k.
Get it home, add gas. Well it needs a battery. Did that. Clutch doesn't feel right. Bleed it. Bleed it 20 times. Rebuild the slave. Buy a new master. Still no clutch. Give up, take it to local Yamaha dealer where they discover the coolant has about 4 ounces in the radiator and when they fill it, leaks galore. The radiator can't be rebuilt, it's too corroded from sitting and not being maintained. Find replacement radiator from a doner Yamaha thunderstorm in Australia (none available in us since the thunderstorm only sold here for one year. Get the new radiator in it. Shop rebuilds the carbs for me, which are gummed up. Start the bike, it runs great, but I'm still not happy with the clutch. Shop says they've done the best bleeding job they can for me. So now I'm to, what about $14k in the bike. By now, the Bimota addiction has hit and I have a db5 and sb8r so decide to say goodbye to the yb11. List it on eBay, nobody wants to give me even $8500 for it. I put it up at no reserve, it sells for $6600.
Lesson, don't buy without looking it over, test riding it, be sceptable of anything the seller says about how easy it will be to put it on the street after sitting for 10 years, remember he's trying to sell it, wants it gone.
My personal recommendation, buy first from another forum member, and buy a bike that's being ridden, so you have reasonable assurance it's being maintained. _________________ Jack

Good advice. When buying used anything, you need to take the emotion out of the equation so you are looking at everything clearly. |

I think we all used emotion when buying our Bimotas. Otherwise you may as well buy a Honda. |

Man has interesting collection but I think his prices are inflated especially considering that bikes were sitting for a while
I, as yb11reno -Jack, bought the bike with extremely low miles. Fortunately I was able to look at the bike, but only from outside. I even rode it down up and down the street. I knew plastic would need some work because of some spider cracks and some light plastic damage on the belly pan. As yb11reno said, the owner gave a whole speech that he had carb service and everything was excellent.
Well, I got the bike home, put it up on the bike lift and removed all the plastic. Took bodywork to a friend. While the bike was sitting, I noticed some drips of antifreeze. Took radiator off and it was full of crud. Sent it over to radiator specialist and was told it can not be restored. ThankfullyI was lucky and found radiator in the USA. Because of the gunk in the radiator, I decided to take off water pump. Well pump was pretty much junk. So, got brand new pump prop, gasket and cover. I was also able to get almost all pipes and hoses. So, as of now, I have fully refurbished cooling system. Carb needed cleaning and by the way it was never touched before. Also got stage 1 installed. Changed wheel bearings. Then realized that forks are leaking. Got new fork seals done
(Thank you evilchicken for fork seals). Also got brand new braided brake and clutch lines and brand new brake and clutch reservoirs. So, now the bike looks awesome and rides pretty good. I don’t think I would be selling it soon. Now the bike is as close to new as it could be and definitely corresponds to it’s mileage of only 4000.
So, yes, I would not pay high price unless I can examine the product. I wholeheartedly agree that buying from a forum member is a great idea. _________________ 2016 Suzuki GSXR750 TRACK BIKE

What do you guys feel would be fair prices?
Anything specific to Bimota to worry about as far as sitting?
Any bike that sits needs the basics. Is this harder for some reason to deal with on a Bimota? |
