Hi all,
I have posted some pictures of my Gobert getting burnt out and a few bits from the rebuild, which might be interesting especially if you are doing any work in the area of the pump.
http://s1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee460/bimotapix/sb8k%20burnout/
I am close to completing the bike now and will post some final pictures when this happens.
Cheers,
Zombie
PS
I would like to add here that the parts that I have received in the last 18 months have all been from the excellent RosMoto in Turin. Bimota took over £2K of my money last December but are still in the process of gathering together and sending the spares 10 months later. Makes you wonder, because Rosmoto have successfully shipped stuff to me arriving at my door within 3 days of order... |

Update: After fitting a fuel pressure regulator at 40psi (to combat the massively over to the top 60psi pump pressure), the SB8K is currently getting a tune up with TPS and throttle balancing being done - current status is at 129bhp and a very nice curve getting there. I am to be honest over the moon with that especially as this exhaust is much quieter than the old one which got burnt out.
Almost time to get the bodywork back on! |

can you post the dyno maps?
or did you draw them by hand?
I want to see where you got the extra 7bhp from. |

Hi,
The main problem seemed to be a large collection of unburnt fuel in one of the silencers. Mixture of a badly firing (wet) spark plug and the bike injecting a lot of fuel on choke on a very cold day.
Cold weather is probably not a problem in Madrid though so you don't need to worry!

Thanks, do not be so sure, Madrid last week was at risk of snow.
Now the temperature is good but it rains a lot. _________________

I am not sure if this applies to all SB8K...could just be that mine is a prototype as it was the 2nd one made (#2/50 Gobert ltd)....
If you are riding in freezing weather, my best advice would be,
a) always carry the tools to change a spark plug.
b) if a cylinder starts misfiring, change the spark plug. If you don't, fuel will be pumped into the exhaust system, where it might catch fire like mine did.
c) Don't run the bike for short periods - e.g. just starting it every now and then.
d) And...try and keep a full bladder, just in case!!
Cheers

maybe getting it fuelling properly would save riding around with a full bladder.
It hurts just thinking about it |
