So I have a spare Vdue frame and carbon seat unit, and have just ordered an SB8 swing arm + linkage from Piero.

I am wondering if there is a "generic" front end (triple clamps, forks, wheel, brakes, the lot) from an Italian or Jap bike that will fit straight on the Vdue frame? And maybe one where the back wheel will fit the swing arm too? Rolling Eyes

I would like to have a cheap-ish rolling chassis.

Thanks!

The standard fit "antera" wheels are often available as most people change them for lighter wheels...and they often come up on ebay....When Piero ran out of generic front ends...forks, yokes etc...he used ones from the Bimota SB6....which evidently you can use antera wheels on, brembo discs and calipers.....main issue in other front ends is the steering stem..Bimota headstocks are over large with taper roller bearings...normally much larger than Ducati, Aprilia etc....any yokes will fit...its sizing or having made the steering stem itself...top nut, cap, sleeve etc etc....

Have you ordered chain sliders with the swinging arm??? THey are hard to come by....

Heres an SB6 steering stem

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Lenkschaft-original-Bimota-SB6-SB6R/371546769568?epid=638681670&hash=item5681e9c8a0:g:50YAAOSwGotWsjMX

and a top yoke...

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Bimota-SB6R-Gabelbrucke-oben-Upper-fork-crown-original-RARITAT/371838534452?hash=item56934dc334:g:3nMAAOSw241YeNJN

Same dealer...in GErmany....used to be a bimota dealer and always listing stock...perhaps worth a phone call???

SB6, SB6R and Vdue all used 46mm dia Paioli forks...so essentially yokes from one will fit another)...Put an advert in the wanted section....theres lots of people on here that have complete sets of the yokes, top and bottom and the steering stem......forks and wheels....

Back wheel with rear disc.....all depends how brave or patient you are in collecting all the pieces you'd need

Or...stick a DB4 front end on it....seller says 46mm dia paioli forks...but I thought they were 43mm...but could check on my bike if interested...has brackets for the calipers....always came with Antera wheels same as vdue....

you could "faux" wrap the lower forks with carbon sheets....Just need a front wheel now and a few spindles/bearings....top and bottom caps etc etc...

Yeah - I kinda had a "frankenstein" project in mind .. you know one for the track, so not necessarily going for OEM, but going for cheap/easily replaceable.

The German gentleman wanted more than twice of what Piero was asking for the swing arm btw Wink

Yes absolutely. No doubt.

I think I will go the brave and patient route and source the parts from ebay or subito over time as I am in no rush.

Good info on the head stock issue..
Looking at Tav. 17 here I wonder if a Bimota steering stem and bearings (parts 2-5 + 11) could somehow be mated with e.g. a complete Yamaha R6 front end ...

Maybe I should get hold of the stem and bearings and then go visit the local bike scrap dealer Cool

The bearings and sleeves are easy to come by.....its the adjusting cap with the locking bolt that's tough...although Rudolf of Bimota-parts.de does stock them (they are known to crack...thin light alloy and often overtightened) so he had a set remanufactured....that's part number 13 - Duct cover....Part 12 is just a big bolt really.....but part number 4 - duct cover at the bottoms...Hhmmm....steering stem purchase is the starter for 10....otherwise its a big hole to fill...larger than jap bikes employ...and a steering stem can be welded/threaded/bolted onto any lower yoke in effect....so that would be number one on my list.....

These would make nice hoops

Pricey...but where else are you going to get one of these from???

Have you tried Guido Fiedler, he may have some parts he could sell you.

Yeah I thought about it, but in the end I felt bad wasting his time if I'm not going to buy a front from him anyway, and just take advantage of his knowledge.

When I get round to the engine part eventually I am sure I will be needing Guido quite a bit, but for now I will roll with 2bims advice on an OEM steering column and modify a more common triple tree.

I was also considering Guido about a rear shock alternative. I bought my Evo from him, and I remember him showing me the rear shock some of the early Vdues came with. Not Öhlins but I forgot which one... Paioli ... maybe Kayaba ... Dunno, but I remember it had a white spring instead of the usual yellow one.

Why does Guido get such specialist privilege from your questions and we don't???.... Laughing

Rear shock units were Paioli....with remote body/adjuster...identical in design to the Ohlins units...but very gaudy with white spring and purple anodising here and there....theres the odd one comes up on ebay from time to time....
