Hello,

Several days ago, I posted in "Bikes Wanted" that I was looking for a YB7.
Well, I found one. A 1988 in Japan with 20,600 KM and an asking price of 700,000 yen (For me, in US Currency, $6,400).

It's a Japanese market model. What does that entail? I would assume that with the low build numbers of Bimota and the engine source that there couldn't be too many aspects of the bike that could deviate from the regular run. Then again, I am "assuming".

Obviously, I am googling these questions but Google isn't anywhere near as accurate or as exacting as an owner's group.

Being a Japanese import, is there anything I should be wary of, or keep my eyes open for? Excluding shipping to the West coast of the US, what do you think of the price? (Then again, where am I going to find another? Wink )

Thank You, Jasper

They made 321 YB7's between 1988 and 1989....most destined solely for the Japanese market.

Price seems high for Japan....some bigger Bimotas go for just $3-4000 USD...and in the UK some YB7's brought over from Japan have sold by a dealer from £3500...roughly $5000...and that takes account of the shipping costs, import costs and taxes and insurance and registration.

Just make sure the bike is complete....as Bimota parts like the bodywork, exhaust, footpegs and foot controls are rare and expensive....tanks are plastic so shouldn't be a rust issue.....

Clocks will be in KMS and not MPH....Mirrors are hard to come by so check if its got the originals

Hi

Thought all YB7s were Japanese market bike.

The worry for me would be the difficulty of importing and registering one in the USA.

There were a couple of different colour schemes. But don't think there are any major differences between the run.

All the best

Katy

As above really.

321 made all for the Japanese market. From memory it was something like 17 blue versions.

Yamaha engines and handle bar controls. I'm not aware of any Bimota specific issues with the bike.

As 2Bims mentioned, I don't know what is involved in importing to the US.

According to the Giorgio Sarti book, 124 YB7's were made with a tricolore colour scheme, 161 with the classic white, red and gold, 16 with white, gold and dark blue. 20 were also sold with an unpainted fairing.

There's one for sale here in Oz which looks pretty good. It's A$8500 which is about US$6500 also. It would be much easier shipping out of Australia as many Japanese shipping agents won't touch a used bike.

There is also one for sale on the Japanese auctions which is about $1,500. It has a TZ front wheel in it, but that is a bargain.
