Very close to the truth that one.....Last year "CNC" from the Forum stopped over for a few days before and after being en route to the Classic TT.....and as a thankyou he gave me a bottle of "Kmetija Stekar 1672 Givi Pinot".....I said thanks...but had no idea of what it was other than reading "pinot" which matched with the colourless clear solution inside a 500Ml bottle marked 4%...seemed rude to ask what it was...hes from Serbia/Croatia/Slovenia...I forget which....Anyhow...I had a friend stay over again last week, told him the story, so after a curry night out we returned and cracked it open and took a few slugs from the bottle to decide....Hhmmm...Glasses....the 4% is actually 40 % Volume...and yup...pure vodka...glug glug.....

so - in preparation to re-fitting the clocks, I decided to give them a spruce-up. I had noticed that the speedo and tacho plastic lenses looked tired - discoloured and pitted - and having carefully dragged my thumb nail across them, I now know why.................

question is - were they lacquered during manufacture, or sometime later?

Perhaps someone was trying to "waterproof" them??/

Find a discreet area, on the clocks that is, and some Nail Varnish Remover/Acetone, apply with cotton wool...All items readily available FOC from a ladys boudoir..... Laughing

No - if these have plastic rather than glass then acetate will make it go milky.

it (the lacquer) has been removed carefully by thumb nail. What is it that polishes plastic to like new, as used on bike fairing screens - Solvol? toothpaste?
Anyone?

Hi

I know toothpaste is used by some model builders to polish up aircraft canopies and the like. It is a very mild abrasive.

But also possible to use one of the kits designed for polishing up scratched headlights.

All the best

Katy

THere are Plastic polishes like Mothers.......I've used toothpaste on the rear light unit of the KDX220...but I had to use a cotton polishing sizel mop on a power drill also...it did polish it up, and remove scratches...."jewellers polish" is another.....but again check if OK for plastic.....I have used T-cut in the paste also to effect on plastic clear headlights......
