|
|
Hello all - I'm interested in replacing the screen on my DB2SR, as the existing one is cracked.
https://www.skidmarx.co.uk/bimota/bimota-db2-standard-screen.html
Has anyone experience of those sold by Skidmarx - is the fit/finish up to standard expected? - are they pre-drilled, or is that left to the purchaser?
Are there any other options out there that people are aware of for a replacement screen?
Many thanks
Mike |

They are NOT pre-drilled, although it is relatively easy to do yourself, just take your time and double check everything. Pretty good for the money and being a Bimota there are not that many options. Have you tried Bimota Classic Parts? _________________ Bimota DB1, Bimota YB5, Bimota YB6 Exup, Bimota YB9 SR, Ducati NCR Replica, Moto Guzzi 750 S3, Honda CR750 race replica, Seeley-Suzuki TR500 |

Another option, tho on the west side of the big pond.

Gustafsson makes a quality product. Rarely pre-drilled but that's fairly easy. Try to obtain drill bits designed for plastic rather than steel but it's not absolutely necessary since the holes are small and not at all deep. Go slow. Measure twice, cut once. _________________ 2013 retro Italian agricultural device

As Paul says,...Yup Skidmarx....bought a tinted one dark tint for my DB2...and yup...not drilled but perfect fit....and good quality...they advertise on ebay...many colours and tints and clear....and theres "another company" advertising in the UK...slightly cheaper...they are in fact the same company under different names but same address...quite clever...searching draws up two companies and you go for the cheaper...so they still get your business....I used a Perspex purpose drill bit in a mini dremel...easier and safer to operate than a power drill...DO NOT place new screen over removed old screen and drill...as the holes move away...inside of one screen is not same as outside of the other....remove old...tape new in place...and either mark holes with black marker....or drill slowly no pressure...as the fairing is hand made...and if still all original...the backing threaded "nuts" are actually tapped and threaded fibreglass mouldings built into the fibreglass nose cone area of the bodywork...so if you drill right through you could snap off the moulded in place "threads" or drill out the threads.....teeny tiny 4mm bolts...typical Bimota style
BimotaClassicParts...may have NOS items...BUT...ask if so...as he has been known to sell copies of Bimota screens from and of an inferior company likened to a "thick poly bag"...and certainly not up to standard....Also try MRA screens...GErman standard accredited screens and quality....but last I heard they had moved manufacturing over to Florida USA...and thus import and customs duty and shipping doubles the cost....I have no issues with either so down to cost and your wallet really....ALL will be undrilled as Bimotas were all hand made in the 1990's...so irregular locations of drilled holes |
