I didn't want to put the same thing up after each time you posted Gavin, so I'll do it here: Fuck that's awesome!
Great to see it becoming a complete bike. It's been a hell of a lot of work but it looks like you've got it sussed. |

Okay............here we go again.
The progress to date has been slower than a slow thing on a slow day.
Mainly due to the road racing season, ie the NW200 and TT, plus some illness in the mechanics area.
By this I mean the mechanics guy charged with the programming of the software and installation has been busying with the race ECU programming for team MV Agusta and the KTM folk.......then..got ill.
However, both bikes... are now side by side on the bench and the set up and general arrangement can take place.
Problem 1
Never having both bikes in the same place, I had for some reason built the rear section of the DB7-11 VLX mule thing higher than the DB9 about 70mm higher.....ho hum.
Nothing the welding torch cannot sort out........I planned to dismantle it anyway in order to get a better finish to the powder coating.
Problem 2
I hated the exhaust line of the DB7-11 VLX so that had to change
IMG_0856 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
Problem 3
I was none too happy with the line of the exhaust on the DB9 either
.....well not the line...more the length...it looked too short
bimota visit 005 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
It looked okay on the standard DB9 but not now mine had the DB11 rear section grafted on
bimota visit 090 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr.
So............a quick call to RACEFIT and they extended the DB9 ARROW race exhaust by 150mm with good spec titanium.
Then the new longer exhaust is fitted to the DB9 prior to a fresh DYNO run.
The DB9 exhaust will then be taken off the DB9 and fitted to the DB7-11 thingy...giving the DYNO guy a base line to aim for plus my calculated 25% supercharge uplift.
Whilst doing a deal in Japan I managed to locate and buy this..........

IMG_0936[1] by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
a work of art ...really..... and as rare as a Tory MP in Glasgow
IMG_0931 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
So..........soon I will have a definitive comparison between the ARROWS race unit and a MotoCorse system minus the end cans.........Racefit will fabricate something 'nice to suit the MotoCorse headers'
This is after they refused.... point blank ....to make a complete system...they had worked ion Bimota bikes bikes before and said NO
Whilst the Arrows unit will go onto the supercharged VLX as per this........

No point building a replica........if you do not replicate (where you can)
More soon but probably not until the middle of July
regards

Well...........KATY..........there is a leading Question.
The photograph in the immediate section is from the ACTUAL MULE from the factory....note the Italian number plate
It is this is which I am replicating with 'lost' parts and new found enhusiasm.
I am still making Bruuuummm Bruumm Poooppa Pooppa Whisssshhhhhhh noises ....
but I am told this will NOT be required after July.
Thanks for asking......I am off down the shops on it in a minute.
regards

Arsenic.......this’ is true...they do not make the headers for the DB9.
But they do for the DB8......which have the same exhaust port shape as the 1198 Diavel engine as fitted to the DB9
Also after the all the non standard approach to everything else I do...project wise....
the thought of the risk of the DB8 headers seemed pretty tame.
They list 2 options and the both with the same pipe dia....so I assumed the difference between the MotoCorse DB7 systems and their DB8 one, come down to manifold for the different outlets.
Plus I was safe in the knowledge that the twin silencer system currently on the VLX mule came from a race DB8.
Also the MotCorse unit seemed like a fair gamble as the price paid was a lot better that som3 folk had mention.
"......and anyway.....what’s the worst that can happen!
Regards

Hi Gavin, we met at the Manchester show, I'm the guy with the oronero - I am interested in the Moto-corse headers and wondered what is the best way to purchase them? |

Hmm i forgot about the « detail » of the new engine of the DB8... did you had to do some modifications ? The chassis etc is the exact same for the db9 or do you have to do some adjustments to make the headers fit ? _________________ DB8 biposto |

Hi Mick....and this maybe a stretch too far for you....other than maybe using Gavs' contact....I am friends with Shin Kondu on Facebook......Shin Who??? He is CEO of Moto Corse in Japan....reads writes and speaks perfect English.....I sort of helped him a while ago by stopping him from placing an order for 30 No. Tesi 3D's...complete with deposits...as he didn't know the factory was closed...yet was still being said "go ahead".....I can ask him a price....they aint cheap though...plus theres the dreaded UK VAT and Import Duty...and that gets charged on top of shipping cost also...as they consider that part of the purchase price....I priced up a full moto corse titanium system with twin end cans a while back for the DB5R....no change out of £3000...and that was before shipping costs...VAT and import duty.... |

Hello to Mick...2bims and Arsenic
Okay ......for sure, personal contact is the best way forward and builds relationship which is VITAL
We were buying via a Japanese broker and I wrapped this in with the purchase
Approx 2300 gbp and another 120 when it landed...so total door to door about 2450 gbp inclusive of all taxes
There are no alterations needed other than the need of an extra bracket....
it is already there on the DB9 but not on the DB7 or 8......MotoCorse supply the bracket .
unbolt the right foot peg assembly and relighted with (new) bracket in place.....simply makes an new hanger point
Please go via 2bims as in my opinion contacts work when help is needed..
..but...pm me and if you want I can use or give the brokers details..
I hope that this helps

Slow progress in race season
But there are some additions ...so here we go.
I did not like the line of exhaust as mentioned before and acquired the MotoCorsa stuff....this much you know.
But the plan was to move the Arrows Titanium exhaust from the DB9 onto the VLX Mule as I had been warned abut the other materials lack of coping with the heat!
I spoke to RACEFIT who wanted nothing to do with any Bimota exhaust BUT agreed reluctantly after I explained the simple modification.
I requested a 150mm extension section following the same line....I think it looks better.
But rather than have extra welds and spring clips..they agreed to cut the original end can and 'insert' the new piece, so that the Arrows endcan looked as original as possible
IMG_0979 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
What you get is the original rrow endcan with with joint section removed and re-welded 150mm away from its original position
IMG_0978 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
In this image you can see that the new length suits the extended rear section on the DB9..............now the whole exhaust can be moved onto the VLX MULE
The DB7-11 VLX MULE was on the bench and the wiring components have started to arrive from Germany.
IMG_0973 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
Since the initial design...MotoGadget have changed some of their units.
In as much as the 'key-fob' ignition is NO longer available....this new unit is activated into life by a finger print on your phone.
IMG_0977 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
A bit of a worry as I would prefer the key fob, as I can hardly TEXT!
IMG_0976 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
The alloy socket thing is the loom connectors.........ever since seeing them on the VYRUS..they are in 2 halves push and turn to lock.
IMG_0974 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
The loom is built in 3 main sections...the front headlamp dash and associated items ...then a break connectors to the main engine and sensor loom then ...another break to the ECU, battery, and tail unit components
IMG_0975 by Gavin Robertson, on Flickr
The ECU from MicroTec...the same as the VYRUS...rev limiters in every gear. a separate fueling map for each gear!
It all kind of makes sense..the Electrician worked at VYRUS
I should get the bike back for more welding and finishing of brackets and final fix by the end of Aug.
The DB9 will be fitted with the MotoCorsa headers and RACEFIT will make 'something' before collection in early Aug
More bits to follow!
regards
