Thanks for the answers fellas. I didn't even think about the breather hose option, it actually seems like a very good idea. After sleeping on it I went the grinder way, basically getting a hex key and grinding it down until it fit the angle and turned the cap, a funnel with a hose filled it up with no dramas.

I have read an article by Roland Brown about the SB7 and he states that there is a minor mod to the frame because of the 750s location of the oil filler cap. He also stated that he was on a prototype SB7 with the fuel pump at the front of the tank and on the production run they were going to place it at the rear of the tank. Im thinking that wasn't the case as my fuel pump is most definitely at the front of the tank. I cant see how it could make a difference anyway as the injection is woeful at anything below 5-6k. The shop I brought it from actually said it could do with a carb balance and I laughed and pointed to the fuel injected sticker on the tail section and said no its just the way it is.

Again thanks for the answers.

Early on i said the bike did a base run on a dyno when it entered the country and the mechanic said it was doing 120rwhp, i have now had it on a another dyno to have a PC5 fitted, he did one power run and it came back at 120rwhp. He only did one power run as i asked the mechanic to concentrate on the lower revs as thats where the problems are.

The bike is better but still not right after a road test so itll have to go back for some more dyno time. It idles better now and no longer smells like half the petrol is coming out of the exhausts.

I recently purchased a DB4, its one of the Redbro ones from Japan, number 2/35, its Redbro designation is DB4R1, it has 40mm Mikuni flatsides, full titanium pipe, indicators in the mirrors and a different paint scheme.

Its number 80 and has 1700kms on the clock and it looks like it has never seen rain. Its registered here as a 2009 so im guessing that is when it was first sold.

I cant believe how light it is as well, pushing it around is easy and riding it it feels very light as well.

I gave it tyres/belts/fluids/battery as its been sitting for a while, still a small issue with carbs, not sure if set up properly or still has some old fuel that is clogging up somewhere, my mechanic recommends going for a long ride to see if any better otherwise carbs will be off for a clean.

Initially I though you where talking about the red DB4 that collettoremoto is selling on Trademe...but that's fuel injected...He's had it for awhile now...I was thinking of buying it, leaving it there and using it as transport when im over in NZ once or twice a year...my concern is the fuel injection, and Im not sure if carbs will fit straight in.
Did you have a look at that DB4? what's the Redbro model?

I've only ever seen a fuel injected DB4 once in the flesh but never examined its fuel injection system....and I have a friend that has one so can ask him how it runs and what it was that Bimota did to change it over....

At the time Ducati was running and making the 900ssie Terblanche model...but as usual wouldn't sell their system to Bimota....so all DB4's had engines out of the Ducati 900 Monster that was still running on carbs.....and Bimota used these for the carbie DB4 and fuel injected model....signified by silver engine cases and grey crankcase covers as was used on the Monster

Theres a nice twin seat DB4ie for sale over here....some Ducati shop changed out the motor though...and shoehorned in a 1078cc fuel injected aircooled lump from a duc Multistrada/hypermotard….and then went further and tricked the engine to high spec also.....

Thanks for that 2bims, there are a few Db4's for sale here in aus at the moment, I'm quite keen on the red/black combination, it would be interesting to hear what your mate thinks of the fuel injection on his bike and from any one who has ridden this 1078cc DB4

Redbro - google says :-

Redbro has introduced a series of DB4s called the DB4r1, r2, and r3. The "r" stands for "refined", "reborn", and "racing".

r1 - 40mm Mikuni flatslides, Redbro full titanium exhaust, Alcantara seat, titanium coated screem, LED mirrors, custom paint. Limited edition of 35 units.

r2 - biposto, Magneti Marelli digital injection (?), Redbro full titanium exhaust, Alcantara seat, titanium coated screem, LED mirrors, custom paint

r3 - same as r2 but half faired

I thought the DB4ie actually used the Ducati 900ss injection system , as the tricolor carb was pre 2000 bimota financial bump and the DB4ie was part of the 2002/3 start up rework/re-badge/impoved Bimota ?? Could be wrong though. Shocked

Bimota best kept secret if you ask me !!!! DB4 is a great little bike and very overlooked.

Your Redbro is basically the same spec as my DB4, mine came with the corse race kit fitted, flatsides/corse pipe/modified tank for flatsides/cone filters etc.
Mine is a pig to start, runs crap when cold , sings like an Angle when warm and curving up the country roads Laughing

Not sure what it used....Db4 carbie was 1998/1999 and Db4ie came out in 2000...I have an old motorbike test review of the ie somewhere so will dig it out and check what it was supposed to have used...archive photos of the ie show silver engine casing which were 900 monster units....the 750/900ss ie Ducati bikes had grey engine casings

Vort... do you know if they had the same revised fuel tank as the Corse bikes?
