Looks quite cheap but not a model I'm an expert on - https://www.autoscout24.es/anuncios/bimota-db-6-full-carbon-full-rizoma-gasolina-blanco-0b02455a-bca7-c648-e053-e350040a8941?cldtidx=7

Now do I need another Smile

Seems allright for a DB6...has a few aftermarket pieces on it....Headlight nose cone looks like carbon and is aftermarket...the normal one is black painted fibreglass ONE piece...this one looks to have a break line beneath the headlight....Front mudguard carbon also...normally black painted fibreglass also....standard Very heavy muted steel end cans.....Dry clutch model but he's kept the Ducati original clutch cover and not blinged it up for some reason.

Original Mk 1 version with no longer obtainable flat round white tacho dial....the 2 reset buttons below tend to go AWOL meaning you cant zero the trip or cycle between temp and Odometer....and the rubber finish has gone chalky like they all do...but that cleans off with some cotton wool and nail varnish remover....

Only other thing would be to check if the ECU is a Later Walbro or a troublesome Pegaso unit that had fueling glitches around 5-6thou in each gear....cured by the factory by changing ECU's.....Which are no longer available....The factory was considering offering a 1,000 euro upgrade kit for this issue that was also on the early DB5's......and that was just parts provision sorting an issue that was caused by them in the first place....Rizoma mirrors, changed grips and those motoGP bar ends to stop racers clipping your brake and clutch levers...

Thanks 2Bims great advice - re the ECU - how can you see which one it has? Is it visible?

And if so where is it?

Walbro one looks like this

https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=qNwfw%2fvV&id=903368370E89C85E0F6C52CB3E6E8081DB73B59A&thid=OIP.qNwfw_vViZB6pqnBSa74zAHaFj&mediaurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.carmousa.com%2fimages%2fcategories%2fsxv550%2520Walbro%2520ECUC1%2520c1-008036-1206.jpg&exph=480&expw=640&q=bimota+walbro+ecu&simid=608018735505346407&selectedIndex=11&ajaxhist=0

from recollection is under the RHS fairing rad panel/scoop....Not sure what the Pegaso one looks like......proof really would be in riding...if its smooth accelerating all thru the gears and rev range...pegaso one stutters at 5thou and you have to ride thru it in each gear apparently...all the test reporters mentioned it

Thanks 2bims - I'm away next week.

If I don't get change tomorrow and it's still here when I get back I'll pop along and take a look.

I'm also new to big Duc engines too. Although it's an early bike (did I read they started with a 1000 engine and later ones had the 1100?) it seems to have 1100 decals on the fairing?

Being of a certain age I probably wrongly have the wrong impression of Ducati engines - My old Track Day Buddy was a Ducati mechanic and seemed to spend most of our track days helping 916 owners with the oily bits!

In terms of this engine do I need to see history of a belt change within the last x months and services every n miles?

No need to reply thanks 2bims - As I've just got my KTM legal and it was a short jaunt along the coast I had a ride out to take a look.

Nice 'tidy' condition but I was after something a little tidier. It is the 1000cc model

Needs a good detailing but things like a dry and rusty chain, no pressure on the clutch lever until I had pumped it about 10 times, no history, etc put me off.

His bottom line was 7500 and he had bids from a French buyer at 7250 apparently. Took some photos if anyone else is interested let me know and I'll post em here.

Pictures are great for initial interest...but theres nothing like throwing yourself in front of a bike for a proper look.

Yup...initially 1000cc mill...later was 1079cc (1100)...as that was what Ducati were using in the Multistrada and hypermotard at the time so that's what was available for Bimota....Generally if it has digital Koso clocks and 1079cc engine...its a Walbro unit ECU...but you know Bimota...its what they had available.

These motors will go on and on for 40-50,000miles....they are quite a simple 2 valve single cam per cylinder...not issues like 748 and 916 with flaky cam followers etc...and they are more stressed twin cam 4 valve units...like with everything though...its down to the owners and being serviced....I've had belts on a bike and working for 15 years on these motors (Db4...ahem...seemed like original belts when I had them changed)....its whether they've been stood and not turned over regular...where the belts go over the top pulley they can crack and perish if left for years...I've rather had a duc engine used regularly than one parked up for years with no mileage....engine oil and filter every 6thou miles....spark plugs (4 No.....twin spark engine) every 12 thou or so...only £4 each...simple removal...no bodywork to take off...Oil and filter change for under £40 if doing yourself....after that its normal checks for any bike....chain maintenance.....tyres and suspension.....brakes brembo so usually very good and long lasting pads...mainly due to the engine braking of ducati engine...ride them right and brakes are just for emergencies....depends how you ride.........

Yea that is true, I have a Pegaso-1078cc-white tacho version Exclamation Surprised Surprised
and have an ECU problem Evil or Very Mad

I had it running with a PC 5 for a while and all of a sudden, the engine starts behaving strange. I wasn't aware of the Pegaso glitch problem until now.

I bought mine brand new in July 2007 and had a big argument with my dealer, who did not told me about the "R" coming out that autum. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

2 years ago I was asked by Bimota the factory via BimotaClassicParts...if DB5 and DB6 owners would be interested in an upgrade....new wiring loom, koso clocks and a Walbro ECU to replace the white round tacho and pegaso units that had issues....price would be circa 1500 euros...but with the buyer fitting it themselves.....

How nice I said...a Factory offering to sell owners something to fix their bikes which Bimota should have fixed in the first place at their own expense....they closed up the factory shortly after so it was never offered to anyone....fortunately...they may have taken deposits and disappeared with that money also

Buy a wrecked broken Ducati Hypermotard or Multistrada….and strip off and fit the wiring loom, ecu and clocks and fuel injection system.....I dont know of another way with the pegaso ECU...as I am not familiar with it...I know that Bimota did not develop the computer programme for it to read the ECU....their "fix" was to fit Walbro ECU's on the later bikes.....sorry

Looks like a huge problem to solve and mine showed the problem years too late for an FOC-update and I was blaming the PC5 all the time, blame me...
I 've done only 6500km so far (have other bikes as well).

You still find it....

Dont feel that you have missed out...that Post was February 2016...just over 2 years ago...It wasn't free of charge...it was 1,500 euros for the parts ONLY...and then you fitted it yourself or paid someone to do it...Bimota never pay for warranty issues...they have always left it for the supplying dealer to fix any issues (or try to)...and then they dont pay the dealer...at least that has been the case here in the UK for the last ten years when there was Bimota dealers based here....
