|

I’m looking to replace the front master cylinder with a Brembo radial, does anyone know the size/ratio I need?
I was assuming 15mm or 5/8?
Cheers,

If you look at the underside of the oem Yamaha master cylinder, the size will be cast into it. Buy the same in brembo, and you should be good.
How about some photo's of this lot?

You will have to open a third party account like Imgur, you can then load photos into your Imgur album, and use the BBC code associated with the photo (once loaded) to link it to any of your posts.
2bims, will probably be able to help you better than I... lol. |

So I got numbers off the front master cylinder
5/8 written above the banjo
8820 stamped on the reservoir
872 *6 molded into the bottom.
Nothing on line about any of those numbers.
Any suggestions?
I thought I read somewhere that the YB7 front master was taken from an FZ 750?
Thoughts?

I couldn’t work out how to do photos, here’s a video of the NSR500 being bumped started by the police in the Isle of Man.
The other two 500’s are there as well.

Very cool vid, and a crisp sounding 500! Did you put them together yourself?
Master cylinder is 5/8 of an inch or 15.875 mm, and yes the FZR750, and the YB6 run 5/8" clutch and brake master cylinders.
Yb7's run a 298mm disc, whereas the FZR's and bigger YB's are all 320mm.
There is nothing at all wrong with the goldlines on the YB7, or the cast iron discs, other they float in the true sense of the word.
So yes, 5/8 or 16mm should be fine. |

Great story on the NSR. It looks like you did a proper job.
So why a YB7 after the excellent specials you've built? It's not the usual thing you can say, but they make the YB relatively ordinary. But there is always that Bimota desirability..... |

They had a YB4 in Padgetts in 1987/88 when I was 17 and it was like having Apollo 13 at the end of the street. The most beautiful bike I’d ever seen! I always wanted one and this came up. I like small light bikes and this fitted the bill perfectly. I absolutely love it. Fantastic road bike. I’ve ridden almost everyday since I got it and I like it more and more. I’m not sure it needs to be any bigger either.
Yeah, the NSR was a big success, what a machine.

Great article and vid. What a beast!
I've got a bit of Dohan here as well! His oran park 2x win WSK FZR750. Which i think were his first world championship career wins, and certainly kick started his international career.
I've been collecting parts to complete it for years (it's all works stuff) and I'm happy to say I nearly have everything I need to get started on the build.
I need a kit 88 FZR swingarm peeps? Anyone?? but that is about it!

Cool. Great to hear you ride it a lot.
I've got the other end of the YB scale. A YB8 race bike with a few nice bits - Ohlins shock, modified Marzocchi front, R1 wheels, race glass, stock Brembo brakes, 1044 engine with flowed head, 41mm FCR flatslides, Ignitech ignition, total loss system with Lithium battery and custom harness, 6 speed box, Termi pipe. This is set up to be a grunty motor and so it pulls from 6,500 RPM to 10,500 RPM. |

If it helps I put a 19x20 radial Brembo on my FZR400RR 3TJ. I kept the original 4 pot calipers on twin 298mm dia discs.
I gave me race type brakes, very powerful but wooden feel. If I did again Id fit a 18x20 or a 19x 18/20 RCS _________________ Don't read everything you believe |
