|

Finally getting around to getting the SB6 running, time for new tires as the bike still has the originals on. Left side fork bottom clamp was WAY tight, right side not at all, because it was cracked.
I had seen a post somewhere of someone with the same problem machining a functional one and figured I could do at least as well but then mega luck struck. A friend of a friend is a retired engineer with a small machine shop in his garage, he makes parts for people mostly for fun. He winced at the sight of the project but agreed to take it on. I gave him broken part, the right fork leg and the axle. 3 days later he says it's done, that'll be $150 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CHEAP!!!!!) He even painted it:

He did a great job. I’d have to get the colour right though if it were mine _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Simple....spray the bottom cast end of the fork.....TBF....put some miles on it and the brake dust will age the new paint to look the same.....I'm not so keen on the cast bottom ends on the Paioli units.....they are a brake dust magnet....and seem to be like the gold series calipers......seem to dull and fade with age....but...if they keep working thats fine by me nowadays |

I was going to leave the part silver, like CP30's one leg, because I didn't think I'd get the color close enough, but the machinist went ahead and painted it. It looks fine on the bike though, you really have to look close to see it's not perfect. |
