Hi guys,
Some of you may have already seen my new additions on FB. Thought I better post something on here for the folk without the dreaded FB. I recently ventured south to look at a partly dismantled DB4 with the hope of getting it for a reasonable price for a parts stash for my non-perfect DB4.
I bought said partly dismantled DB4 and while I was there I was lured by a complete, fairly original and good condition DB2 J (400). I made a deal on both bikes that was just too good to pass on, so now I have doubled my Bimota head count in the shed. Here’s a few photos.....

The DB4 has a lot of missing parts like the obvious bodywork, clocks, light and support frame, front callipers lines and m/c, clutch slave, r/h levers.
But it has many good original parts. And by the look of the very minimal wear on the rotors and the nice quiet clutch basket, I sipuspect it has low klm’s

The DB2 J is the real gem...
It shows 28000 klm’s, has all of the nice original parts and the bodywork is in pretty good condition for its age. It has the usual left side damage from a suspected fall from the suicide side stand!

It still had the original tool kit which looks like it’s been sat in the seat hump for its entire life .Complete with the rear axle eccentric adjuster and the rear shock preload adjuster with ‘Ohlins Racing’ stamped into it
And the lovely choke knob with Bimota logo

Congrats on the new Bikes Brian, the DB2 looks sweet, you'd better give us a road test once you get her going... What year was it produced? _________________ Cheers

Very nice Brian....and you had the pleasant surprise of seeing and hearing both of them run....which is always a worry when you buy a bike thats been sat for a while...takes a potential big headache away....
I suppose you'll be looking for me to send you some DB2 info now eh? Owners Manual, Exploded Spare Parts Diagram manual...DB2 workshop Manual...electrical wiring diagram, Paioli RSU41 Fork manual, DB2Junior Sales Brochure...... |

Nicely done. I see the 'Buy It Now' demons won over after we spoke.
So does the DB4 motor slot into the DB2J?? |

It would....only thing to check would be spindle size of rear swinging arm that goes through the back of the engine casing for its pivot point......Exhaust should bolt straight on also......Strangely...for the 400cc motor...which is a sleeved down 600 monster unit...Bimota still fitted the same Mikuni 38's as they did with the DB2 900...and...they used the same exhaust system also...pipe wise....which might be the only other thing to check......as maybe the 400's cylinders are shorter in height thus the bend and length of pipes may be different....as the headers on the DB4 wouldn't fit with DB2 under seat exhausts.....Oil cooler higher up on DB4 with line for carb de-icers...but this could be swapped and lowered down below....hanging off the horizontal valve cover as Ducati did.
Only one front disc though...and Bimota being Bimota...the LHS fork leg is a special with no lugs on it for a second caliper...not like Ducati did....but the DB4 forks would fit...and voila..twin disc.. |

You would have to lose the tacho though....DB2 clocks both tacho and speedo are cable driven....DB4 engine has electronic tacho...which isn't with the bike |
