Hi, Having looked at the service intervals my YB10 has come to that point and I would like to do a service on it. Having looked at the manual and looked at the motor it looks like you cant do the valve clearances without dropping the motor our of the frame. Anyone done a service ? How difficult is it done I need to take the motor our or can I just lower the front as it were to gain access. If its anything like the SB6 then I guess I know the answer to that.
thanks |

I imagine you only need enough room to remove the rocker cover? I’d start with removing the pipes etc and see if the engine can be tilted enough _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Pivoting the motor on the rear mount allows you to get the rocker box cover off and camchain tensioner out, to do the valve clearances - all 20 of them! _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |

If you need to remove the pipes, airbox etc. to pivot the motor, why not just go the whole hog and drop the motor out. A bit of extra work initially but it will make the engine work much easier. You can give it a nice clean up while it's out. |

Kind of six of one and half a dozen of the other. If you got to strip half the bike down to do a service might as well go the whole hog. Bet you have to take the front end off to tilt the motor. |

It’s probably a good opportunity to check and clean everything anyway. What sort of KM are you at BB?
You are going to need tapered feeler gauges.
Is this your first 5 valve yam? |

It's at the 29000 mile mark. It's 10.30 at night and I can be bothered to run down to check. Yea it's my first Yam and yea I've got a workshop manual and I'm pretty sure I have tapered - I guess you mean pointy - feeler gauges in my tools. Can't say I'm looking forward to doing 20 valves. The ZZR is sooooo easy to do. |

They are pretty straight forward, cams do have to come out. At 30K they will need doing, valve recession (inlet is a problem) If you would like me to help you through just say, and I'll post up some info.
I've got an engine here that I've got to do the clearances on, so may be able to provide some photos.
If your ZZr is anything like the ZX9 well yes they are incredibly easy... So forget all that, and get ready for some pain and suffering! joking. |
